Teaching and Learning

Arts in focus

As you know we have a strong focus in our Site Improvement agenda on Literacy, encompassing oral language in the Children's Centre and reading to writing across the school incorporating critical literacy. This week we wanted to put a spotlight on the way that the specialist teachers contribute to this work. In visual arts the students access technical language cards on tables to support the explicit teaching of vocabulary. Students have been critiquing images, discussing what they think the story of the image is as well as exploring the inquiry and technical language being used around art criticism around the Archibald prize entries. Students oral language is developing strongly through the arts curriculum.

Language and culture focus

During Reconciliation Week (Be Brave and Make a Change) students have been exploring the theme of reconciliation. As part of this learning we are developing our understanding around the our Acknowledgement of Country as an opportunity to respond and personalise our connections as a school community on Kaurna land.
