From the Principal

From little things, big things grow

This week I had the good fortune to visit our Year 9 as they explored Melbourne for the week.  It was the second leg of our new Year 9 Experience, The Micah Program (act justly, love mercy, walk humbly) which provides adolescent students with an invaluable opportunity to build ethical and intercultural understanding in a metropolitan terrain. A privilege denied by COVID-19 to our students for the past two years.

The theme of the trip centred around ‘compassion’ and while Year 9 enjoyed the street art tours, the visit to the Eureka building or old Melbourne Goal; the activities that have had the biggest impact have been in fact preparing meals for the homeless at Fare Share Kitchen, a visit to a Jewish synagogue in East Melbourne and a compelling presentation by Nahid, an Afghan Muslim asylum seeker. I saw eyes light up and minds open.  Mission accomplished.

I applaud all Year 9 students for embracing the trip in such a positive, mature fashion and wish them safe journey home today. I also commend Head of Year 9 Experience, Miss Amy Andrews for all her organisation and thank the incredible staff supporting her, Mr Ben Hawthorne, Mrs Sharnah Malseed, Mrs Helen Henry, Mrs Valetta Bolton and Mr Joachim Rymarz.

Finally, I extend best wishes for a Happy Mother’s Day to all our College mums!
