Principal's Message

COVID

I hope you are all staying as well as possible, given the recent rise in COVID cases. Thank you to everyone for communicating positive cases to the school this term. Can I please ask you to continue to inform us if your child tests positive, by phoning the school on 9462 9999. Our administration staff will then inform the classrooms teachers of your child's absence. As you will have noticed we are no longer reporting on individual cases, nor calculating total case numbers at a school level.  Saliva RATs were handed out to families last week. If you have not collected yours, please do so at reception.

Please remember that if your child is a household close contact, they are still allowed to attend school each day, but must return a negative RAT each morning before school. Primary school students are not required to wear a mask at school, even if they are a close contact, but are most welcome to do so. Any staff who are deemed close contacts are required to wear a mask while at school.

Given the disruption to our usual routines over the past few months, the student reports will look a little different when they are emailed out at the end of this term. Our teachers will still provide a grade for all learning areas, however will only write an individualised general comment for each student, along with some general information on what has been taught in English and Maths. We usually send reports out at the end of Week 9, to allow parents the time to meet with teachers during Week 10. Unfortunately this term we will not be able to email reports out until Week 10, as a result of the many staff absences we are experiencing at present, due to COVID.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN testing has now been completed, with our Year Three and Five students working hard to complete all the testing over a two-week period. We do not expect to receive the test results back until next term and will send them out when they arrive. I would like to remind parents that while the NAPLAN tests provide some feedback on student achievement, they are only a small part of the assessment we do throughout the year and only give us information about how your child performed on a particular day. If you would like to discuss the progress your child is making at school, I always encourage you to arrange to meet with their teachers.

Mother's Day Stall

Thank you to the P&C who hosted our annual Mother's Day stall. We saw lots of great gifts going home to Mums and carers!

Caring C Rewards

Every 3-4 weeks we have our Caring C reward day, for students who are eligible. On Friday, 13 May our younger students had the opportunity to bake and decorate some goodies, with the older students enjoying an obstacle course on the oval.  The obstacle course was a team event and the students chose their own team members.  All students completed the challenges with support, kindness and care for each other.  Their efforts were rewarded with a sweet treat after all their hard work.

Assemblies

We're looking forward to the Year 5/6 students in Emus hosting this Friday's assembly, with our final assembly being pushed back to the last day of the term (Friday, 1 July), hosted by the Kangaroos.

Mural

If you've been in the undercover area this year, you will have noticed a mural forming on the wall next to the canteen (pictured above). The mural is being painted by one of our incredibly talented parents, Kirsten Bayes. Kirsten has volunteered her time and creative talents to work on the mural over the course of a few months and I'm sure you would all agree it is looking fantastic. The animals in the mural represent each of our class names.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
