Missions Week

Be Brave, Make Change & National Sorry Day

Missions Week at HCC is a special time where we focus a little more on the world and less on ourselves. It is an opportunity to celebrate that we have a God who calls us to partner with Him in being an influence in caring for the world.

Our vision for this year was to empower students to believe they are brave enough to make a difference. We wanted them to hear about children - just like them - who live in very different and harsh conditions. We are blessed to have the Cross family a part of our College community. They are doing God's work through the ZOE Foundation and the team came to share about child slavery and trafficking to both our Primary and Secondary students.

Amongst our events for the week were the Walk for Freedom, the sausage sizzle, and the dress-up day, we kept a bible verse at the centre of it all. This can be found in 2 Chronicles 15:7: 'But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded.'

Our Missions Prefects, Jasmine Hart and Daniel Crispim, did an incredible job juggling their schooling and the responsibility of Missions Week. Thank you for your vision and all your hard work.

We pray that our community was touched by Missions Week and we thank you for supporting your children to partner with us. The donations we received through the sausage sizzle were $302.05. All proceeds go to the Zoe Foundation. The dress-up day gold coin donation raised $277.55 and will go to HCC missions work.

National Sorry Day in Grade 5C

The National Sorry Day (Thursday 26 May) fell during the HCC Mission Week. On that day, while the Grade 5s were dressed in costumes, they created an artwork to acknowledge and remember the Stolen Generations. They traced their hands on paper and decorated their hands with the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. Then they glued their decorated hands around the word ‘Sorry’ to create a National Sorry Day Sun.
