Sydenham Campus Principal Message
Campus Principals’ Report-Sydenham
Welcome to Term 2, 2022
Thank you to all students and staff for the wonderful end to Term 1. We had a great Year 10 Well Being Day on Friday 25th of March. Students participated in a number of sessions all designed to support their mental and physical health and well being. A big thank you to Sarah Pearson, Jane Williamson and Jasmine Warren for their organisation of the program and the day.
REACH foundation
The REACH foundation is currently working with a small group of students from Years 7-9 on campus. Programs such as these equip students with the skills to make meaningful connections with peers and to develop positive behaviours. Thank you again to the Well Being for their proactivity in sourcing this program.
College GALA
After many interruptions and much hard work, we were finally treated to our College GALA! Students and staff performed matinee shows for our neighbouring primary school students and put on two extremely entertaining evening performances. Congratulations to all involved and well done to Ms Marlee Conlan and the Performing Arts Team for their persistence and support of our students.
We welcomed many families to the Family/Student/Teacher interviews in the last week of term. It was great to be able to see students introducing family members to their classroom teachers. Families are reminded to view Term 1 Interim reports with their children and to follow up on any questions by contacting subject teachers.
Leadership team
Direct contact with Campus and Team Leaders is an excellent way to provide support to students. Throughout the year, we would like to introduce you to our Campus Leadership Team. In this report we will begin with our Campus Leaders, Mr Andrew Atherton (7/8 Leader) and Mrs Karen Martin (9/10 Leader). They have kindly provided the following by way of a brief ‘getting to know them’.
I have been lucky enough to work at Copperfield College for the past 11 years in the role of classroom teacher, Campus Sport Coordinator and Team Leader before being appointed as a Campus Leader. This is my 3rd year as a Campus Leader working with the year 7s and 8s at the Sydenham campus. I really enjoy getting to know the students and supporting them in feeling connected to the school after moving from Primary school.
In my spare time I enjoy walking my dog, going for bike rides with my kids and anything to do with playing and watching basketball
I started at Copperfield College in 2001 as a Maths and Science CRT. In 2006 I became an ongoing classroom teacher and soon after started my Leadership Journey (Numeracy Leader, SRC Leader, Team Leader and now Leading Teacher).
I am a very passionate and dedicated teacher who enjoys supporting our students with their learning and preparing them for their future (school or employment).
I am a mother of 4 children so I do not have much spare time. When I do, I enjoy spending time in the garden, baking and spending time with my family.
Mr Atherton and Mrs Martin have also been busy preparing students to complete their NAPLAN tests in the next few weeks. Communication relating to NAPLAN has been posted on the Parent Portal on Compass. We ask families of Year 7 and Year 9 students to encourage their child to try their very best on the tests.
Olivia Power
We are always very proud to showcase the amazing talents of our students- past and present. Olivia Power (ex Syd campus 7-10) completed Year 12 in 2021 and she achieved outstanding results in VCE Music Performance. Olivia was invited in March this year to perform at the Melbourne Recital Centre- an invite only event to showcase young musicians who received very high scores in their VCE Music Performance exams. Olivia’s performance can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/JUO3_f0yD9A
Scholarship recipients
We also congratulate the following students who have received Copperfield College Scholarships in 2022

Year 8 (Continuing from 2021);

Angus is also one of our Campus Student Leaders and he was kind enough to share his 2021 Student Led Presentation with campus staff at a meeting last Monday. He confidently showcased his goals and learning from last year.
Keshya Mumford also shared her Year 9 2021 SLP and Jake Zammit (Class of 2015) returned to the Campus to share with staff how the skills he developed as part of the SLPs he presented throughout his six years at Copperfield have helped in in his post school success. Jake now works for Metricon and is a Site Manager with his eyes on Managing a high rise site in Dubai!
Year 7 Zoo excursion
Over the last 2 weeks, Year 7 students were treated to a day at the Royal Melbourne Zoo as part of their Science studies. Students from E and H Teams enjoyed the day and completed tasks leading into their Common Assessments.
As you can see, lots going on and we look forward to continuing to work on our campus goals and having a ‘year of Champions’.
