Term 1 Interim Reports

The Term 1 Interim Reports were emailed home at the end of last term and I envisage that our students had an opportunity during the school holidays to view their progress. Overall, it was pleasing to see positive outcomes for many of our students. I encourage parents to make contact with the teaching and training staff if an interview has been requested or you have any concerns.

Home Weekend

A home weekend has been planned for the WA Day public holiday weekend from 4th June to 6th June.  The College learning programme will continue to 2.10pm on Friday 3rd June and resume 8.10am on Tuesday the 7th June.

Student Declaration and Permission online

Each year the School Curriculum and Standards Authority require all Year 12 students to complete an online student declaration and permission.

All Year 12 students will need to declare that they are aware of the requirements to achieve the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) and for sitting ATAR course examinations. These requirements are listed in the Year 12 Information Handbook which is available on the Authority website.

Student Permission

All Year 12 students will be asked to give permission for the following:

(a)   Release of their name should they win an award

The School Curriculum and Standards Authority award winners are published in the media and on the Authority’s website, if permission to do so has been given by the student.

(b)   Use of school work for creating support materials

The Authority is seeking permission for the use of school work produced during 2022, e.g. assignments, projects, portfolios, tests, school-based exam responses.

(c)   Use of examination responses (written and practical)

The Authority is seeking permission for the use of ATAR course written and practical examination responses (copyright owned by the student).

It is probably easiest for everyone if students complete the online declaration and permission here at the College, but your son or daughter is encouraged to discuss each of the above questions with you prior to doing so. Indeed, the online procedure has been developed so that your son or daughter cannot complete the student permission unless they click on ‘Yes’ ‘I have discussed my responses to the above questions with my parents/guardians’.

Further information is available on the Student declaration page via School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s Year 11 and 12 website.

OLNA Testing

The first round of OLNA results has been released and I was pleased to note the overall progress made by our students. An update of the OLNA results will be included in the Semester 1 Reports. Students who have not passed the OLNA in Reading, Writing and/or Numeracy will have another opportunity in the second round commencing in late August.

ATAR Exams and Externally Set Tasks (ESTs)

The Year 12 Agricultural Studies and Trades students will be completing an Externally Set Task (EST) for each WACE subject in Weeks 2 to 4, beginning on Monday 2nd of May. Teaching staff have provided background information to students, explaining the requirements and expectations for each set task. The Year 11 and 12 ATAR students will be sitting their Semester One Exams at various stages during the term, commencing on Thursday May 19th.  A copy of the exam timetable is located later (Program Coordinator – Teaching and Learning section) in this newsletter.

Year 12 Hospitality Students

The students attended South Regional TAFE (Albany) on Wednesday 27 April and 4 May to enhance their barista and customer service skills. To further develop these skills, students will be making speciality coffees during morning tea whereby staff can purchase at a discounted price.

First Aid – Year 11 Students

St John Ambulance (Denmark Sub Centre) have commenced conducting a series of First Aid courses to the Year 11 students. Students will receive a Provide First Aid certificate on completion. The course will include both online study and one day of theory and practical instruction delivered by the Denmark St John Ambulance Sub Centre.

First Aid forms an important part of a number of Vocational Education and Training certificates delivered at the College including Conservation and Land Management, Horse Care and the Certificate III in Agriculture. Provide First Aid is also a core competency for Certificate II.

The course is optional but highly recommended, particularly if students are intending to complete a Cert. II Forest Growing and Management, or a Cert. III in Agriculture.

Work Experience for Year 12 Trade and Ag Studies Students - Final Week of Term 2

The College recognises the importance of our students, particularly those who are apprenticeship, traineeship or employment bound, experiencing a range of different work places during their training program.  We also acknowledge that work experience placements, particularly for our Year 12 Trades and Ag Studies students, often lead to apprenticeship or job offers the following year. In light of this, a one-week block of work experience is available for all Year 12 Trades and Agricultural Studies students in the last week of Term 2 (June 27 – July 1).

Year 12 Trades and Ag Studies students who are enrolled in a Certificate III Agriculture will also have the option of staying at the College and continuing to work towards this qualification.

Information regarding the one-week block of work experience at the end of this term has already been sent out to all parents of Year 12 Trades and Ag Studies students.  It would be greatly appreciated if parents could return the Work Experience Placement Information form to the College as soon as possible.
