Onigiri making

On the Thursday 5 May, the Multicultural Club ran the first workshop for Term 2: Onigiri-making. Over 60 signed-up to participate! Unfortunately, we had to limit the number of students, but it was great to see so many people interested.

Onigiri is a Japanese snack, made with rice, seasoning and filling, such as tuna or chicken which is pressed or hand–moulded into the shape of a triangle, and commonly wrapped with Nori. Onigiri is also known as ‘Rice balls.’

This workshop was very successful and ended with either getting to eat the delicious snack, or taking it home in a cute wrapping bag. We had tuna, roasted chicken, wasabi mayo and seaweed and plain rice as fillings. By the end, everyone was munching on the leftover seaweed and filling.

Thanks Ms Chang, Si and Yinan of the ISP team for overseeing this workshop in Room 19, and all the helpers of the Multicultural Club who helped to plan, facilitate and stayed back to help clean up. Without the volunteers assistance, these sorts of events could not be possible! And of course to everyone who signed up and came!

Onigiri moulds can be purchased at outlets like Daiso or you can also use your hands

Feedback from a student:

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for organising the onigiri workshop today. I had heaps of fun, and it was a really enjoyable experience. I even tried making them again as soon as I got home.”

Look out for Multicultural club activities soon.
