From the Principal

Benvenuto - Welcome

As I reflect on the last couple of weeks, it is with gratitude for the patience, resilience and understanding of our community. This week we had to take the unprecedented step of asking some of our students to work from home due to the overwhelming shortage of staff to cover classes. Thank you to all of our parents and students for understanding the situation and supporting us to be successful. The staff at St Anne’s College continue to demonstrate extraordinary resilience and collegiality in the current climate.

Last night I had the greatest privilege to be able to attend the ABC Takeover Shepparton Red Carpet Launch of the stories of the 44 winners in the Takeover Shepparton project. The event was an opportunity for us to view the short stories of each of the winners and hear about their incredible journeys.

We had two representatives from St Anne’s College, Kowther Mejbel and Logan Kempinski. These two young people participated in a week-long summit, hosted by ABC to develop and produce their stories and generate ideas for youth in the local community of Shepparton. Both students presented themselves in such a positive way and told inspirational stories. Please go to this link to view the stories: Takeover Shepparton Winners Congratulations Kowther and Logan!

Another exciting occurrence during this week was the announcement that Emily Gleeson in Year 10 was awarded the prestigious Bishop Joe Grech scholarship. This scholarship is given out annually in the diocese of Sandhurst in memory of our past Bishop Joe, a dearly loved Bishop who died suddenly in 2010. Bishop Joe was known throughout the diocese for his strong support of and belief in the youth in our diocese. When he visited

schools (which was very regularly) he would always say to the children – "God does not make rubbish" – you are all special and can do great things. You may recognise this saying as Fr Rob Galea wrote a song about Bishop Joe’s powerful message. Emily is a worthy recipient of the scholarship and intends to use this to support the development of her faith through engagement with a youth ministry experience. We look forward to hearing more about this from Emily in the future.

Although it can seem like a long time ago that we were enduring lockdowns because of COVID-19 and many of the restrictions have been lifted, it is important that we do not become too complacent as the virus continues to impact us greatly. Can I please ask that we remain vigilant with our COVIDSafe practices? We highly recommend twice-weekly Rapid Antigen Testing for our children. RAT kits are available through the college and can be organised by contacting the reception staff. If your child tests positive to COVID-19 please let the college know as soon as possible.

I wish you all a safe and restful weekend.
