Week 6

Grade 4 Excursions 🎶

On Friday 27/5, the Grade 4 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Playhouse Theatre at the Arts Centre to see “The Selfish Giant” opera show.

Students watched as the Giant went through times of being selfish and unfriendly - not letting any of the local school children play in his beautiful spring garden. They then saw the transformation as Winter and her minions came through, destroyed the garden, and the giant realising the children would bring back spring and joy to his life.

The students were so excited about how "fancy" the theatre was, and how they loved all the shining lights and props as well as the live orchestra and wonderful song and story.

On Wednesday 1/6, the Grade 4 students attended a second excursion - a "Moving Stories" workshop at The Channel in the Arts Centre, and a tour of NGV Australia.

In Moving Stories, students warmed up with some exercises and short dance. Then they played some fun team building activities - 'school of fish' and 'dance spotlight', which involved cooperation and non-verbal communication skills from the students. The main part of the workshop was for students to work in small groups and create then portray a story about animals using only their bodies. Students were able to come up with some really fun and unique ideas.

At the NGV Australia exhibits, students walked around in small groups to explore a variety of artworks, including those belonging to Indigenous Australian artists. This was the perfect opportunity to link to Reconciliation Week.
