Future Learning: Finding the Depth, Balance, and Diversity
Last week students in Years 7-11 completed Mid-Year Examinations. The College believes that examinations are an important part of student learning, and we work hard to ensure that students learn the skills and knowledge required to showcase their learning in an exam setting.
In the final week of term Mid-Year Reports will be released to families via PAM (Parent Access Module). You are encouraged to make time to read the report with your son or daughter, note the grades, feedback comments, look at the learning behaviour indicators and finally read the mentor comment. The partnership between student, parent and teacher is the basis for learning. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s mentor or subject teacher if you have any questions about their learning progress.
This week current Year 9-11 students, parents and guardians attended the Emerge Information Night for 2024. Emerge is the final three years of senior school at College. Principal Mr Michael Horne addressed the students and encouraged them to see the event as a milestone in their academic journey. Miss Reiher our Head of Senior Years and Head of Careers led a panel discussion with students and an Old Collegian to reflect on how they made decisions about what to study in VCE. My role was to encourage students to choose a learning program that provides depth, balance, and diversity. The right subject selection is important because it enriches your understanding of the world but also equips you with a versatile skill set, making you adaptable to different challenges that lie ahead.
Each subject provides an opportunity for personal and intellectual development. It offers students a chance to have new experiences, embrace challenges, and approach learning with a positive mindset.
Students in Year 10 and 11 in 2024 can apply to be part of the Excel program. Excel has been designed to provoke intellectual thinking, build leadership capacity, teamwork, and empathy for others. To find out more about Excel please contact Mrs Wendy Henderson.
