The Peace Child Musical

A special milestone for our Brooklyn Park Junior School

During Week 9 of Term 2, our Brooklyn Park Junior School achieved a very special milestone – performing our very first Junior School Musical! The children performed the story of ‘The Peace Child’, reminding us of our own peace child, Jesus Christ, who’s sacrifice has made it possible for us to live in peace and relationship with our God.

The audience were captivated by the beautifully colourful costumes, the interesting and quirky set, and the skillful performance of the Year 5/6 Main Cast actors. Each Junior School class took to the stage, singing songs to continue telling the story. By the end of each performance, the joyful dancing and singing was contagious, evident in the many smiling faces in the audience.

The staff and students worked incredibly hard last term to put on an outstanding show. A huge 'thank you' to Music Teachers Nikki Meinel and Naomi Ali, whose creative directorship brought out the very best in our students. Thanks also goes to Eunice Sweet for clever and creative costuming, and to Rochelle Wildman and her team of Child Studies students who created gorgeous bear costumes for our Year 1/2 students. Richard Heath and Kirri Collins did a wonderful job of set design and props, and Tiana Cambareri worked incredibly hard with students to oversee choreography and supporting the many rehearsals.

We especially thank our wonderful parents who supported their children in regular rehearsal attendance, the provision of various costume items and general support and encouragement.

We are so proud of our students for their incredible achievement!

Celebrating the Bond: Year 5/6C and ELC Class Unite for NAIDOC Week

We are delighted to share the heart-warming connection that has flourished between the Year 5/6C class and our wonderful 3-year-old ELC students throughout this academic year. This special relationship recently came to the fore as we celebrated NAIDOC (National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week together.

The students engaged in a variety of meaningful activities. They had the opportunity to listen to captivating Dreamtime stories that were thoughtfully read and explained. These stories served as a gateway to explore the rich Indigenous culture of Australia. Students enthusiastically discussed the significance of different animals and their symbolism within these stories. In the spirit of celebration, students joined together to create a vibrant artwork portraying the Rainbow Serpent, an emblematic figure within Indigenous Australian culture. This collaborative effort showcased the unity and respect fostered between the two classes.

One of the highlights of this celebration was witnessing the remarkable leadership demonstrated by some of our Year 5/6 students. They took the initiative to read to our ELC students in small groups, sharing their love for storytelling and fostering a nurturing environment. This display of empathy, care, and leadership left an indelible mark on our hearts.

The smiles radiating from the faces of both the older and younger students speak volumes about the joy and genuine connection that has blossomed through this ongoing relationship. Witnessing the empathy, kindness, and genuine care exhibited by our students is truly a blessing.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Year 5/6C and the 3-year-old ELC students for exemplifying the values of inclusivity, empathy, and respect. The collaboration and friendship that has emerged from this beautiful bond is a testament to the positive impact we can have on each other's lives. As we continue to nurture and strengthen these relationships, we look forward to witnessing the growth, learning, and shared experiences that will shape our students into compassionate and empathetic individuals.
