Round 3 Results
Debating serves as a powerful platform for students to bolster their confidence in public speaking, while also honing the essential skill of crafting compelling arguments supported by multiple citations. These are not only vital abilities within an academic context but also hold immense relevance in everyday life. By engaging in debates, students learn to express themselves articulately and persuasively, which can significantly impact their communication skills in various personal and professional scenarios.
Round 3, held in Weeks 8 and 9 last term, was our 'Crazy Hair Round', where some of our students took up the opportunity to wear their hair in a very unusual, yet creative style.
The topics were:
Year 5: That teachers should not give lollies as a reward to students.
Year 6: That we should be allowed to keep native animals as pets.
Year 8: That single-sex schools are better than co-ed schools.
Well done to our winning teams!
'Speaker Of The Night'
The 'Speaker of the Night' award recognises students for their exceptional debating skills. We are delighted to announce that four of our students received this award. Congratulations to:
Debating practice involves the whole family! We are grateful to parents and grandparents for listening to their children's debates and brainstorming probable rebuttals. We would like to particularly thank students who were prepared to step-up and fill in the gaps of students who were absent. A big thank you to Mariam, Greg, Monique, and Diana for being flexible and available.
Thanks to the Year 5/6 teachers who supported all our teams in preparation and to our coaches; Madame Daoud, Caroline Wicks, Richard Heath, Kimberly Gurren, Kristy Houston, and Caleb Zybek.
In May, 38 students from Year 5 to Year 10 were willing to take up the challenge in competing in the Australian Mathematics Trust CAT competition where our students had to answer fifteen complex logic questions in an hour.
Congratulations to the following students:
