Pathway Planning Evening for Years 9-11

Have you booked your child's interview session?

Parents of Years 9-11 students should have received a letter about the upcoming Pathway Planning Evening. This is a compulsory, important opportunity to discuss and customise each student's pathway through schooling, reflecting their individual learning needs. With open dialogue between parties, we aim to offer a supportive environment in which families can navigate the SACE years of their student’s schooling and beyond.

Date: Tuesday 1 August

Location: Emmaus Performing Arts Centre (EPAC)

Times: Appointments booked form 3.30-8.10pm, approximately 20 minutes.

Presentations: SACE Pathway Presentations at 4pm, 5:30pm, 7pm

approximately 25 minutes.

BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL VIA SOBS

Please familiarise yourself with the subjects on offer at our website:

If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact Student Services at South Plympton.

Pathway planning is a significant part of a young person’s education. Emmaus staff feel privileged to work with families to create opportunities where students can continue to belong, flourish, respond and think.

We look forward to supporting you as we work together through these final stages of learning at the College.

Blessings,

Year 12 Retreat at Victor Harbor

Having self-understanding, ingenuity, love, and courage—all through the power of the Holy Spirit in one's life—these were the encouragements given to the Year 12s during their Retreat held at Victor Harbor in the final three days of Term 2.

The Year 12s had an exciting adventure, starting with Tree Climb at Kuitpo Forest, followed by activities at Adare Campsite. They enjoyed a variety of experiences as a year level, including bike riding, night hiking, high roping, problem solving, firing archery at one-another (safely!), performing at the camp concert, an escape room challenge, relaxation, a campfire, and even a game of poly-pong, among other activities.

The involvement of parents in a portion of the camp was greatly appreciated by the students. Throughout the retreat, the Year 12s took risks, supported one another, and took time to reflect before embarking on the final push to finish the year.

VET Tasters and Opportunities

The Vocational Education & Training space presents students with opportunities for apprenticeships, traineeships and vocational skills building. A number of opportunities are available for students to engage in during this semester to discover if a VET pathway is best suited to them. Interested students in Years 10-12 are invited to register their interest in any of the below opportunities:

1. Try a Trade

This program is delivered over four Fridays (9am-3pm). The program focuses on trade careers within the construction industry and provides students with practical activities in carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing, tiling, sheeting/flushing and demolition.

During the course, students will undergo White Card training – the cost of which is fully subsidised by Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

Emmaus students are invited to register for the class at Studio West, Seaton in Term 4 (Nov 17 - Dec 8). Places are limited and fill quicky.

2. Careers in Auto

The Motor Trade Association (MTA) are holding Open Days on August 1-3. See their state-of-the-art facilities and the career options available in the automotive sector. This is an area of skill shortage in SA and employers are keen for new upcoming apprentices. Registration is required, please see details below.

3. Outdoor Careers Expo

The Nature Based Outdoor Network of South Australia (NBONSA) will be hosting a specialized Careers Expo for staff and students wishing to find out more about employment and professional learning opportunities in the outdoors. This will be held on Thursday 17 August (1pm to 5pm) at the Karen Rolton Stadium, Glover Avenue, Adelaide. Register here

4. Hair and Makeup Workshop

Clipjoint will be holding a 2-day workshop in the October school holidays. This is a great opportunity for students interested in a career as a hairdresser, makeup artist or beauty therapist. These workshops are hands-on in the salon and are a great introduction to the industry. Places fill fast so please register your interest by following the details in the Course Card below.

Senior School Snow Trip

During the school holidays, some of our students visited Mount Buller in Victoria for the annual Snow Trip. This is an unforgettable opportunity for Senior School students, and provides the perfect blend of adrenaline-pumping activities, skill development, and bonding experiences amongst the snowy landscape.

Students embraced the thrill of the slopes with private daily lessons in either skiing or snowboarding. Under the guidance of seasoned instructors, they honed their techniques and fearlessly challenged themselves, pushing the boundaries of their abilities. The trip offered the ideal environment for fostering camaraderie and resilience while exploring the wonders of the snowy mountains.

If your child would like to attend the Senior School Snow Trip in 2024, keep an eye out for information in Term 2, 2024.

The Resilience Project - Mindfulness

Today’s presentation from The Resilience Project is all about Mindfulness.

Mindfulness is our ability to be present at any given moment. We practise this by using intentional awareness and concentrating on what you are doing when you are doing it.

Thousands of studies into Mindfulness indicate that with regular practice, Mindfulness can lead to benefits such as; reduced stress, reduced rumination, increased memory, increased cognitive function and physical health benefits through improved immunity.

Mindfulness can be practised through exercise, prayer, meditation on the word of God, flow-states and daily activities such as cooking, journaling or reading the Bible.
