From the Acting Principal

Week 8 Term 2

Dear Parents and Carers

The classroom teachers have been busily planning next term’s units of work with the common theme of Science and Design and Technology. The Prep unit ‘It’s a Material World’ will focus on the properties of matter, while the Year 1/2 students’ unit, ‘Look Listen and Shine,’ will be about sources of light and sound. The 3/4 students will explore the unit,  ‘Move It’ which focuses on how forces make things move and the 5/6 students will explore ‘Matter Matters and It’s Electrifying’, looking at states of matter and electrical circuits.

As mentioned previously, the reports will be available electronically on Monday 19th June via the nForma Parent Portal. (See Page 3 for further information). The Parent Teacher Conversations are on Wednesday 21st June from 1:50-7:00 pm. To enable this to happen, we are asking that parents pick up their children at 1:00 pm on this day if they are able to. An Operoo form will go out today.  As always, we will also cater for students until 3:15 pm. For parents who would like to take this opportunity to have a follow-up conversation about your child's learning, please use the link: https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/code/4w3c5 .  Bookings will close on Tuesday the 20th of June.

As we enter the last week of Term Two and head into the holidays, I want to remind families that we will finish at 1:00 pm on Friday the 23rd of June. OLHC staff will be attending an RE professional development day on Monday the 10th of July in conjunction with the staff from Holy Trinity, with a focus on developing prayer with children. We will be working with Melbourne Christian singer songwriter Gen Bryant. Each year teachers are expected to complete 10 hours of Religious Education training to maintain their accreditation to teach in Catholic schools. This day, in conjunction with the after hours sessions the teachers have been attending so far, will go a long way towards getting us there. Term Three will begin for the students on Tuesday the 11th of July.

Thank you to all the families who have been generously contributing to the Winter Appeal. We encourage all families to keep sending in non-perishable food items. The Our Lady's Parish St. Vinnies group does an outstanding job supporting families in the area that are struggling, and your donations are put to very good use. We will continue to collect goods right up until the last day of term.

You would be amazed by the number of lonely pieces of uniform we find lying around the yard that have no name tags attached, so parents, please take the school holidays as an opportunity to check all uniforms and lunch containers for names. Liz has 2 bomber jackets in the office with no “readable” names. We would like to see them back to their owners.

Reminding parents that you are all invited into school this Monday the 19th of June, from 2:10 to come into the classrooms and observe or participate in our final SWELL sessions for the term. We will finish the day with a brief assembly where student representatives from each of the groups will report back to the community about what each group has been doing.

We also have the sprint and hurdle trials at Central Park on Friday 23rd June which are the wrap up to the Year 3-6 students learning about athletics this term. We are asking for parent helpers for that and hoping for some slightly warmer weather.

Please take a moment to read about all the other exciting things happening at OLHC in the different areas of this newsletter.

We will publish our last newsletter for the term on Friday next week.

Regards,

Mark
