Education in Faith

Term 3 Curriculum

This term, all students Prep - Grade 6 are learning about Connecting to Others. In Religous Education, we are exploring prayer, liturgy and Sacraments of the Catholic faith, whilst also learning about traditions of other cultures. By learning about different beliefs, we not only develop our knowledge and understanding, but increase our respect for others.

The Enhancing Catholic School Identity (ECSI) Survey states the preferred position on the Victoria Scale is a Dialogue School. The Victoria Scale explores how a Catholic school, within our multicultural and multi-religious society, manages its Catholic identity whilst also exercising harmony with the wider community. It considers the links between faith and life.

It is through dialogue and exploration of other faiths that we hope to strengthen not only our beliefs as Catholics, but also increase our knowledge of, and respect for, people of other religions.

This topic links to our Inquiry subejct of Geography. Students are learning about connections to places, diversity and significance of different places, and factors that shape places and influence interconnections.

Mini Vinnies Winter Appeal

Thank you to all families who donated non-perishable food items, beanies, gloves, scarves, blankets and toiletry items for our Winter Appeal last term. Our local St Vinvent De Paul conference, along with our OLA Mini Vinnies are extremely grateful for your generosity. Many people in our community will benefit from these items. Thank you.

Staff Faith Formation

On Monday 10 July, our school closure day was focussed on staff faith formation and prayer through music. Andrew Chinn and Drew Lane worked with all staff, showing us how different songs and actions can be incorporated across the school year and liturgical calendar. There was such a sense of fun to the day, and we can't wait to share what we've learnt with the students, further embedding signing and dancing into RE at OLA.

Feast of the Assumption

Tuesday 15 August is the Feast of the Assumption. This is a big day for OLA each year as we celebrate our namesake.

On this day, we will hold a whole school prayer service, students will engage in activities to learn more about Mary, and we will have our biannual OLA Fun Fair from 12-1:30pm.

The OLA Fun Fair is essentially a 'mini fete' where each class is in charge of organising a running a stall, and students have a chance to purchase items/engage in fun activities. A letter will be sent out on Operoo next week, explaining which stall each class is organising and asking for donations from families.

Thank you in advance for your support as we prepare for this special day.
