Student Leadership
School for Student Leadership - Term 3 2023 – The Alpine School, Dinner Plain
The School for Student Leadership (SSL) is a Victorian Department of Education and Training school specialising in leadership education for students in Year 9. It accepts students from metropolitan and country regions each term. This enables students from different backgrounds to share the experience and opportunities provided through the program. Students apply via their home school to attend the program through a process that links their application to a proposed Community Learning Project (CLP). The CLP is the curriculum thread that runs in an adjoining and continuous manner through the program. It provides the purpose for attendance and the motivation for departure. Students are symbolically wedded to their projects, which aim to deliver an action outcome of their learning into their home communities.
Belmont High School had a large number of outstanding student applicants who completed a written application were interviewed during Week 4 in 2022. It is with great pleasure that we wish the successful applicants: Mali Martin, Chloe Robertson, Ruby Chapman, Lachie Ricchini & Hazem Ali all the best for their upcoming adventure. OUR SSL team have been meeting regularly preparing for their Leadership School and developing a plan for their CLP. They look forward to sharing this with you on their return to BHS in Term 4. Belmont High certainly has a bright future ahead of it with the quality of the students we have.

GALS
Over the whole of term 2 a group of girls have been a part of a program called GALS (girls as leaders in stem). The girls have gone to work shops at Deakin University and over zoom. The program helps girls find out more about how stem becomes part of everyday life. The girls have had to pick a problem to work on and try to find something they could do to help. The girls decided to work on microfibers and how they are polluting the ocean. Microfibers are so bad for the environment and more people need to be aware. As part of their project they have put on a bake sale and brought microfibers to other peoples attention. The bake sale was a huge success as they raised $150 exactly, all this money will go to a website trying to fight this problem too.
