Year 8 Camp

Fun in the sun

On Monday 15 May, 147 Year 8 students and 18 teachers and parents departed Brunswick for a three-day camp at the YMCA Anglesea Discovery Camp at Anglesea on the Great Ocean Road.

This camp was designed to provide opportunities for leadership, building resilience and developing independence, as well as enhancing the students’ connectedness and friendships.

Our destination provided a range of activities that engaged and entertained the students. They rode mountain bikes and skateboards on the designated tracks and ramps, prepared and cooked food on an open fire in the bush, and learned how to balance and overcome their fears on the high ropes course. They also had an opportunity to discover the natural environment through rogaining (a form of orienteering) and archery - although not at the same time!

One of the highlights was the giant swing, where the students experienced the thrill of flying through the air. Another was the team building initiatives, where they collaborated to solve problems and overcome challenges. The crate climb allowed the students to build towers of crates as high as possible while being supported by their peers.

The camp experience was valuable for all the participants, and students demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience, and cooperation throughout our time away. They also showed respect and care for each other, staff, and the environment; teachers and parents were impressed by their achievements and behaviour.

We would like to acknowledge the Anglesea Recreational Camp staff for their professionalism and hospitality, and give a big thanks to our attending parents for their support and assistance. We hope that the students will long retain the memories and friendships they made at the camp.
