Pathways & Possibilities

Term 3 - Pathways Planning Processes

Laura Hughes

Careers Coordinator

Term 3 is a big one for senior school! There are many things that our senior students need to consider, discuss and decide.  BSC has a busy schedule of Information Sessions and Expos to help inform their decision - and we are always on hand to answer any questions.

Tertiary Open Days

Students in Year 11 and  Year 12 are encouraged to attend as many tertiary institution Open Days as possible so that they can investigate pathways they might follow after they graduate from BSC. A calendar of all these events can be accessed HERE, and a master document of all published dates for open days has been posted in the Year 11 and Year 12 Teams channels and is also included below under Important Dates, Experiences & Activities.

Year 12  - Beyond Brunswick

Next term, Year 12 students must complete a review  of their plans for post-graduation, including any of the following:

  • finalising their Victorian Tertiary Admittance Centre (VTAC) preferences list ie  a list of preferred courses relating to their future university or TAFE study.
  • submitting any Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) applications
  • applying for employment or apprenticeships

Individual students will meet with the Pathways Coordinator to complete this process.  Arrangements for these meetings meeting  will be posted in Teams, on Compass and discussed during Home Group sessions.

Please note that VTAC university/TAFE timely applications are due by September 28 and SEAS applications are due October 6

Year 11 Pathways Expo

BSC will host a Year 11  Pathways Expo during the Home Group session of Week 4 next term. Representatives from the major universities, TAFEs and employment providers will be available to talk with Year 11 students about their course or employment interests and options, and to provide advice on preparing for a particular pathway as they move into their final VCE year.

Middle School

For students in Years 9 & 10, there are  important Information Sessions for families and students to attend.  These sessions will prepare students and their parents/carers for their year-level  transition at the end of the year.  The Pathways Coordinator will present information about how these students will be supported in their Pathways and Careers learning and staff will be available to answer any questions.

As always, we have an 'open door' policy for students who wish to discuss their learning/career pathways chats, and students can book a meeting any time.
