Message from the Principal
Grounds Renewal Fundraiser
Thanks so much to all the families that have contributed to our fundraiser. Our community has so far raised over $8500 - what an incredible effort!
All donations will directly fund the first phase of grounds renewal works, which will be guided by the priorities identified by students, staff and school leadership as well as the amount of funds raised. We're really looking forward to hearing students' ideas through surveys next term.
ERead more about the Fundraiser in this edition, on Compass or on the BSC website.
You can help bring their ideas to life by making a tax-deductible donation to our Grounds Renewal Fundraiser, hosted through the Australian Sports Foundation. The more funds we raise, the more inspiring outdoor spaces we can build!

The number of students participating in sport throughout Semester 1 has been very high, and this is wonderful to see. Students across all year levels have joined their peers on a number of sporting arenas, putting their best foot forward. Our school has been well represented, both on and off the field, with teams demonstrating great skills and teamwork, along with exemplary sportsmanship.
Bye Bye Birdie
Production rehearsals are also in full swing, in readiness for performances the first week back next term. Bye Bye Birdie promises to deliver a delightful evening of entertainment, and we encourage the wider community to get along to the Clocktower Centre to see the show.
We will welcome Grade 6 students from local primary schools to enjoy the final dress rehearsal at the Clocktower venue. Not only will this experience give them some insight into the Performing Arts curriculum at BSC, it also provides an opportunity to strengthen our bonds with the staff and families from our feeder schools, as well as to invite a wider audience to celebrate the achievements of our talented students.
Book your tickets to see Bye Bye Birdie directly from Clocktower Centre. Click HERE or telephone (03) 9243 9191.

Artist Ruby Ruse
Ruby Ruse (8U) generously gave of her time to draw the image which accompanies our Grounds Renewal Fundraising campaign. I am sure you will agree that it is a superb example of eye-catching artwork.
Ruby’s artwork came to my attention last year when her pencil drawing of the character Hagrid from the Harry Potter films was on display in F block. Ruby completed this drawing for the portraiture unit in Year 7 Art and it was awarded first prize in the Semester 1 Brunsibald Prize competition - a people's choice award.
I thought I would take the opportunity to ask Ruby about her interest in art and share it with you. Ruby’s passion and talent, not to mention her generosity in designing the fundraising poster, is inspirational. Thank you, Ruby.
Ruby Ruse
Year 8
What is your first memory of drawing or painting?
My first memory of drawing/painting is probably me and my little sister in the back garden running around with paint brushes, painting big bits of paper and each other, and also doing random art projects with my mum.
How would you say your artwork has developed over the years?
My artwork has developed a lot over the years. I started to learn digital drawing, and more realistic styles. Doing the Brunsibald [Prize] taught me how to draw realistic faces and I experimented with that, but I always like drawing cartoony faces and people.
What art/design are you currently working on at school and in your leisure time?
In art class I just finished making my lino print of Medusa and printing it. At home I draw lots of random stuff, at the moment I'm experimenting with realistic colour pictures and getting better at drawing eyes and hands.
Why is art important to you?
Art is important to me because it is a nice way to relax, and I find it fun to learn new techniques and try to draw new things. I also like to experiment with new materials and learning different digital techniques.
Do you think art/design will influence your career pathway?
I think that art probably will influence my career pathway. I really enjoy it and I think having an element of art/design in my job will make it a lot more enjoyable. I don't think that I'll become a full-time artist, but I think it will affect my future jobs.
Parent/Carer Involvement
Going forward, the college will be encouraging more parent/carer volunteers to be involved in various school programs, camps, incursions and excursions.
More information will be made available next term, however any parent/carers who may be interested in participating are encouraged to investigate and apply for a Working With Children (WWC) Permit in preparation.
Parent/Carers can visit Apply for a Working with Children Check to find out more information and to get an application underway.
All volunteers are required by law to hold a current WWC, details of which must be sighted and recorded by the school prior to allowing volunteers to assist with programs.
Happy Holidays
I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday break, and return refreshed for Term 3.
