Netball Cup - Wagga Carnival 2023

On Thursday, Kildare sent 5 netball teams to compete at the Netball NSW All Schools Cup at Wagga Equex Centre. The carnival consisted of teams from Wagga and the surrounding areas. The top two teams from each division progress to the regional carnival in Albury in August. For the first time, we selected two boys teams to compete in the competition.

The Year 7 and 8 Girls Navy team breezed through their round games easily, dominating Pool A. They played teams from Temora High School, St Anne's Temora, Ariah Park and Wagga Christian College. The girls demonstrated some quality Netball throughout the day and finished top of their Pool.

The Year 7 and 8 Girls Red team had some tough opposition in their pool, drawing to play TRAC as their first and last round game. Whilst the girls lost both games to TRAC, they improved significantly from the first game to their last and demonstrated outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. They also played Temora High School and  St Anne’s Temora in their pool and won both games convincingly which gave the girls some extra confidence. These games allowed the team to try out different combinations and get used to playing with each other. This meant that the girls finished second in their pool and would now face their friends in the Year 7 and 8 Girls Kildare Red Team who had won their pool.

The final was hard fought for both teams and both teams demonstrated some outstanding skills across the court. In the end, Kildare Red won by two goals and will now progress to the Albury phase of the competition. Congratulations to both teams and all girls involved.

The 7/8 Boys Netball team debuted for Kildare in the Netball All Schools Cup. The boys headed into their first game excited, but with a hint of trepidation. It was goal for goal in the first half before the boys took out the win against Wagga Christian College and proceeded to show they had the ability to compete by winning their next 3 games against 3 separate Temora teams. Their last game was like a grand final against Coolamon Central competing for 1st place. Despite playing hard and clawing back at the points, they went down to Coolamon 13-8. The boys worked hard on their skills and teamwork throughout the day, providing entertaining games and extending their skill level. Congratulations on your progression to the next stage in Albury.

Our Year 9/10 Girls team had a tough game to start the day against rivals Mater Dei Catholic College. The girls played a fantastic game and beat Mater Dei by 4 goals. We then went on to play St Anne’s Temora, Ariah Park High School and Mt Austin High School. We had convincing wins against these teams and finished top of our Pool. As a result we played the second placed team of the other Pool which was Temora High School. Our girls played another strong game in the final displaying exceptional teamwork, tight defence and accurate shooting. The girls will progress to the regional carnival in Albury in August.
