Changes To Work Experience

I met with Year 10 on Friday on 23 June to discuss changes to Work Experience.

Please see below the new process.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you require any clarification.

Before organising the placement (Do this ASAP)

  • You are required to complete an online course on the MyWorkExperience website which will take you approximately 15 - 30 minutes. You need to download the Certificate (you will need to print it later). No matter how many placements you do, you only need to do this once.
  • You are required to complete an online Infection Prevention and Control course which will take you approximately 10 -15 minutes. You need to download the Certificate (you will need to print it later). No matter how many placements you do, you only need to do this once.

Organising the placement

  • Read all the information provided in Introduction to Work Experience
  • Ensure that your parents/carer has read all of this information and have read Workplace Learning Guide for Parents and Carers
  • Decide on what types of jobs you may like to try
  • Find contact details of prospective employers
  • Contact the employer (you need to do this NOT your parents) to see if they do Work Experience. See Possible Initial Telephone Conversation with Employer for hints.
  • Come and collect a Pre Placement Pack from the bookcase outside the Career Office which will contain all the forms you need. It is preferable that you hand deliver these forms to the employer. However if you need to email them see Draft Email to Employer. This gives you a guide to what you need to email to them. You will find all of the files that you need to send them in the For Employers Folder
  • Collect completed Student Workplace Learning Record from employer. They may have emailed it back to you or you may have arranged to go and pick it up.
  • Return the Pre Placement Pack to Ms Murray at least 14 days before the placement. Hang on the Careers Door on the hook that says ‘Drop Off Zone’. Make sure the following is included
    • Cover sheet checklist
    • Student Workplace Learning Record
    • A copy of your Infection Prevention and Control Certificate
    • A copy of your Ready for Work Experience Certificate and Photocopy of your White Card (if required)

Once placement has been organised

  • Do not assume that your placement will go ahead, until you have had confirmation from Ms Murray.
  • Be aware that you need to collect a Placement Pack before your placement. This will include, Work Experience Diary, original copy of Student Workplace Learning Record  (for the Employer), Work Experience Evaluation sheet. It will be hanging on the Careers Office door.
  • Check with Ms Murray to see if there are any other arrangements which need to be made eg OH&S Course, Work Experience Preparation Session etc

One week before the placement

  • Ring employer to confirm all is OK with your placement

After the placement

  • Come and see Ms Murray to tell her all about your Work Experience
  • Be aware that you will be required to return your completed Work Experience Diary and Work Experience Evaluation before you will be issued with a Certificate
