New School Strategic Plan

At the end of Term 3, we received confirmation of our new school strategic plan.  As a school we undertook a comprehensive review of our previous plan and engaged the whole school community with the new one. In summary our new four strategic plan will focus on three broad goals:

  1. Improving student learning outcomes in Literacy and Numeracy
  2. Improving student agency, engagement and connectedness to their learning
  3. Improving the wellbeing of all students

There are a range of key improvement strategies and targets to achieve these goals. I would like to thank all parents who contributed to the review process and attended focus group sessions. This was of huge benefit to the development of the new strategic plan and we look forward to implementing this plan from the beginning of 2023.

2023 Classes: Parent Requests and Friendship Forms

I am well on the way with our  workforce planning for 2023. As I have communicated in previous newsletters, if your child will not be attending Langwarrin Park Primary School next year, can you please let our front office know at your earliest convenience. Conversely, if you have not enrolled your child for next year, please do this as soon as possible.

We are also at the beginning stages of setting up our 2023 classes. A huge amount of time is spent developing class lists and considering the needs of all students. There are two different ways we like to engage parents with the development of class lists. Firstly, if you have specific requests with the placement of your child in 2023, it needs to be put in writing and emailed to me by Friday 28th October (richard.barren@education.vic.gov.au)

Parent requests will only be granted when there are legitimate educational reasons.

Secondly, friendship preference forms have been sent out and we are asking that you take the time to sit down with your child to identify four friends they would like to be with next year. From that list, we will ensure that one friend will be in the same class as your child. This form needs to be signed and returned back to your child's teacher by next Friday (21st October).

Workforce Planning

I am also well under way with finalising our 2023 workforce plan. I currently have a number teaching positions advertised on the Department Recruitment online space. These positions will hopefully be confirmed in the coming weeks. As I have said previously, there a critical shortages with the supply of teachers and this is a major reason for advertising the positions as early in Term 4 as possible.

Grade 6 Production

Our Grade 6 students had a very exciting Monday and Tuesday this week filming their Grade 6 production. They all did a sensational job and this is in part for work of Mrs Pendlebury, Mrs Barnett and their support team. We will be having a Production Premiere night later in the term to showcase to the Grade 6 families.

State Education Minister Visit

We were fortunate to have the State Education Minister visit our school on Wednesday morning. It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our school and show her some classrooms and school grounds. She also officially announced that we were successful in receiving a $163,000 Inclusive School Fund grant. This money will be used to build an Indigenous Sensory Garden in a space up near the tennis courts and Jackson Dve. We will keep you updated with this exciting development.

Hats

Just a reminder that we are now in a Sun Smart time of year and all students are required to wear their school hats when outdoors. Can you please make sure that your child's comes to school each day.
