International

Public Speaking Competition

Macleod College international student, Vu Nguyen participated in the International Student Public Speaking Competition at Northcote High School on Monday 10th October 2022.

Eleven candidates from five different state schools participated, speaking on the topic ‘Moving the Goal Post’.

Vu delivered an inspirational speech which focussed on individuals challenging themselves with constant evaluation of their own goals. Vu’s speech was animated and engaging and while he didn’t place formally, he certainly provided listeners with some food for thought.

Vu and Ms Cochrane also had great fun getting to know students from other schools and catching up with past students and families who started their Australian education at the Macleod College Intensive English Language Centre.

Birthday Celebrations

Celebrating birthdays with a morning tea, cake and friends has become a highlight all students look forward to! Our international students do not always have the luxury of their families fussing over them on their birthdays, so their Macleod family makes the effort to celebrate and make them feel special on their special day.

Farewell Zoe

On day 1 of Term 3 Zoe Moenning started at Macleod College as an exchange student from Germany. Zoe’s mother Erika was in Australia with her, and they took the opportunity to explore our country and see as much as they could while here. Zoe slotted into Year 10 and was quickly integrated into the group by our friendly students.

They took Zoe under their wings and made her feel welcome and included in the day-to-day life of an Aussie student. Lifelong connections are made during student exchange programs and many of our own students have participated over the years. Zoe expressed her gratitude and extended invitations to visit her in Germany!!

Student Leadership

Vicky, Asta and Owen presented their speeches for International College Captain to all the international students, Ms Cochrane, Mr Arney and Ms Shee.

Students were then given the opportunity to vote for their preferred representative, and we are happy to announce that Asta Hu was voted 2023 International Student Leader.

The vote was close, and we would like to thank and congratulate the students for their willingness to put themselves forward.

Speaking, especially public speaking, is very important for our international students to practice. All three are to be congratulated as they presented well thought out speeches, delivered in an engaging manner.
