Tom Leishman Memorial Match

Friday October 28 - Tom Leishman Memorial Match (Mann Oval, 1:00pm - 4:00pm)

This will be the sixth edition of the Tom Leishman Memorial match. As most of you will remember, Tom Leishman (‘16) was a successful footballer and cricketer in his time at Trinity College. Unfortunately, in January 2017, Tom lost his battle to cancer. The First XI cricket team will be playing a T20 Cricket match against the Old Boys, teammates and friends of Tom Leishman headed by captain Lochie Taylor (‘16). There will be a sausage sizzle after school that day with all profits going to cancer research in Tom's honour.

PSA Round 1 Review

The first round of the 2022/23 summer season began last week with a home fixture against Christchurch. With a modified pre-season for many of the teams, it was always going to be a tough first round. However it was pleasing to see all the teams continue to fight out every match no matter the result.

At the first level, Basketball and Tennis both got off to terrific starts by winning close contests. Whilst Cricket, Water Polo and Volleyball all lost, they all made life difficult for strong Christchurch teams. In the middle school, the 8A Basketball team continued on their winning ways, whilst the middle school Volleyball program continues to go from strength to strength and recorded many wins.

This week is an away fixture against Guildford. Please check the fixtures carefully on Seqta as many teams are playing against different schools and different venues.

Week 3 Sport

Trinity has the bye in week 3 of the PSA season. There will be no training for most teams next week apart from first teams and possibly some other senior teams. The training schedule can be viewed on Seqta under the Sports Training tab.

Katich Moody Cup

On an overcast day out at Guildford, the Junior’s A team went head to head with Guildford in the annual Katich Moody Cup, which is a game that celebrates the feats and achievements of two fine cricketers who represented each school, in Simon Katich and Tom Moody.

The day started with a nice touch, with the team being announced by the First XI cricket team in front of the Katich Moody Pavilion.

Led by Mani Townsend (Captain) and James Clark (Vice-Captain), the side travelled to Guildford. Mani won the toss and decided to bowl on a pitch that offered a bit for the seam bowlers. Opening bowler Alistair Cosby took a wicket in his first over. Line and length was the order of the day, with the team restricting Guildford for 2/26 at drinks. From there, Guildford would add some valuable runs thanks to some lower order hitting and some extras from the TC bowlers. The boys went from 6/67, to having them all out for 149. An imposing target for any chasing side. Luca Di Fulvio was particularly economical with the ball, taking 2/15 off his 4 overs.

Lunch was a delight, with the boys in their blazers mingling with the Guildford players and umpires.

The chase got off to a shaky start, with both openers gone cheaply. Out to the crease strode Jobe Hegarty and Mani Townsend. In a match winning partnership, Jobe and Mani put on 71 runs to put the team in a strong position. Calm batting and quick singles was the order of the day. Samson Birt came in and made a quick fire 21, before some hearts in mouth running saw us lose 2 wickets to run outs. Spencer Hathril calmed the ship, with Alistair Cosby hitting the winning runs 5 overs to spare.

A game played in great spirit. A big congratulations to our cricket boys for yet another Katich Moody win. The future is bright!
