Graduation Mass and Dinner

A huge congratulations to all of our Year 12 students who graduated last night. The graduation dinner was held at Optus Stadium with the night beginning with a Mass, followed by dinner.

There were many wonderful highlights; the introduction of Head of Year, PCG teacher gifts from students, reflections by staff, students and parents, Mother-son dance and the touching exchange of letters to parents which were written when the boys first joined Trinity College.

We wish the boys the very best for the future as now officially TOBA old boys, and look forward to hearing about their achievements in years to come.

Farewell Class of 2022!!

The National Mathematics Summer School (NMSS)

The National Mathematics Summer School (NMSS) is a program for the discovery and development of mathematically gifted and talented students who will be studying at Year 12 next year. It is a two week residential summer course held on 8 - 21 January at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra.

Joel Carcich was one of around 25 applicants from which only 7 Western Australians would be chosen to attend the camp. His application was outstanding and it is no surprise that he was successful in his application.

Students will be working with mathematicians in a number of branches of mathematics at a relatively advanced level. They attend tutorials under the guidance of a range of staff – postgraduate students, mathematics teachers and academic mathematicians.

The main activity of NMSS is an in-depth study of three or four different areas of mathematics. Each is very challenging and will extend every student. On the other hand, the program is non-competitive and very much hands-on. The emphasis is on doing mathematics, not just on listening to someone else talking about it.

By the end of the two weeks, most students are amazed at how much they have accomplished and post-school surveys indicate that the NMSS has succeeded in extending their intellectual horizons. Almost everyone returns home with a considerably enhanced view of their own potential.

We look forward to hearing about Joel’s experience in the new year.

Senior Mentor Morning

On Monday morning, the Year 12 Senior Mentors spent their final PCG session with their Year 8 students. It was a great way for the Class of 2026 to farewell their mentors where each of those students handed over some thank you letters for the guidance and support they have received over the past two years. On behalf of the Class of 2026, we wish them every success for their post schooling lives!

Perth Philosothon 2022

On Tuesday, 20 September, Trinity College sent a team of students to compete in the annual Perth Philosothon at UWA. The team consisted of Lachlan Reid (Year 7), Ashton Callus (Year 8), Jamie Wilson (Year 8 Reserve), Westlee Terrell (Year 9), Sebastian Foti (Year 10) and Kundan Dharmapuri (Year 11). Unfortunately, Sebastian was ill on the day, but fortunately, Jamie was able to stand in for him.

This year’s discussions centred around the following topics:

  • Are artistic forgeries valuable?
  • The importance of diversity and inclusion in sport and physical activity
  • Is a hole something, or nothing at all?
  • Should we welcome our cyborg future?

The topics led to discussions about the rights of transgender people, what it means to be human, the aesthetic value of art and our need to classify and label everything around us.

Lachlan and Westlee both managed to be ranked within the top 10 students for their respective year groups. Jamie had to compete against Year 10 students and Kundan was a last minute replacement.

Westlee was also chosen to thank the organisers of the event and commended them on their catering! Even though our team was quite inexperienced, their performance is to be commended.
