Author study - Aaron Blabey

Congratulations to all staff and students on another wonderful Author Study week. Students engaged in wonderful learning opportunities across all areas of the school. We know the importance around promoting a school-wide positive reading culture for students where they feel enthusiastic and engaged in reading and responding to text. Throughout the week, students were  provided with the opportunity to delve deeply into Aaron Blabey’s life and many of his books. Students critically evaluate his themes, characters and writing style as well as making connections to their own life experiences.

Public Speaking

After a two year hiatus the Buninyong and Mount Helen Lions Club are holding their Junior Public Speaking Contest. Our school can enter up to two students to represent Grade 3/4 and two students for Grade 5/6.

After asking students to put in an expression of interest we had two 5/6 students and four 3/4 students, this meant that we held a school based contest last week to determine our 3/4 representatives.

Congratulations to Evie and Addison from Grade 3/4 and Aubree and Naomi from 5/6 who will represent our school on November 21st at the area level contest. Well done to all those involved and thank you to our judges, Mrs Probert, Mrs Cray and Ms Cummins.

Student Excellence Program

During Term 4 we have had several students selected for the Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP). This program is organised and delivered by the staff at Virtual Schools Victoria (VSV) for students who have been identified as excelling in the areas of English and Maths. These students join with other students from across the state to participate in weekly virtual learning sessions that help extend their thinking and teach new and complex skills. We wish our participating students all the best for the term of extension learning ahead.

Congratulations to the following students who are participating in this program throughout Term 4:

Maths:

Liam A, Oscar D

English:

 Mahli O.

Swimming

The swimming program will take place for all students in P-6 throughout this term. The dates are set out below. Further details were sent out via Compass at the end of last term, so please provide consent as soon as it is convenient. There is no cost to families this year for the swimming program.

Some classes will be seeking parent volunteers to assist with change room supervision. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if this is something you can assist with. Please note, all volunteers must have a current Working With Children Check that is on file with the school office.
