Transition Mornings

2023 Preps have started participating in transition mornings. This is an exciting time for children to begin to transition to school in a supporting and successful manner.

Dates: Wednesday - October 12th, 19th and 26th between 9:15am and 11:00am

Our first week was a huge success. It was terrific to see how settled our new students were. A fun morning was had, incorporating our Author Study into the excitement of the morning.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

SC1 students go off to a wonderful and calm start for the term. It was great to see the students so excited for the term ahead. We embraced the Author Study with students displaying enthusiasm and love for author, Aaron Blabey, and his great books. Just a reminder that students need their reader pouches at school everyday. I will continue to check reader diaries weekly and pop any relevant information.

This week we have a visit from the Buninyong CFA on Friday morning as part of our integrated topic. Students will have the opportunity to have a look at at the fire truck as well as chat and have a brief presentation from some of the CFA members around fire safety and equipment.

In Maths last week, students explored data. We looked at creating suitable questions to gather data, different ways to record data, reading data and interpreting data. Our favourite activity was gathering data on what colour lollies we had in our packet!

Please ensure you have a good look above at the information regarding upcoming events for SC1. We have a busy couple of weeks ahead and know that organisation will be the key to ensuring everyone is prepared. As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Ana

SC2 Learning Snapshot

What a busy and productive week we had in SC2. It was wonderful to see the students back at school settled and having fun exploring, creating, reading and writing. Please remember to keep an eye on the calendar for upcoming events (especially Year 2 students) and to read nightly with your child/ren.

Students thoroughly enjoyed looking at a variety of Aaron Blabey books. Many discussions were had and connections made, as students read for enjoyment, practised their literal comprehension and honed their acting skills.

Mathematics saw students continue to learn about Mass, Volume and Capacity. Students learnt the difference between Volume and Capacity, predicted, weighed, compared, poured and filled a range of objects and containers even making the most of the glimmer of sunshine that we had!

As part of our Respectful Relationships lesson, students looked at ‘stress management’ and discussed different ways to manage stress, which enabled students to refer back to previous Respectful Relationship lessons, and in particular to different breathing techniques. We played the ‘slowing down mirror game’ and completed some Tai Chi exercises.

I hope everyone has an enjoyable week,

Dani

SC3 Learning Snapshot

This week SC3 has put a big focus into our class structures and routines, including redefining our class trademarks. As a class, we have further developed and practised our lesson structures, with students doing a wonderful job helping to maintain and drive a calm and productive classroom environment.

Our author's study work on Aaron Blabey was so much fun, with us loving the Bad Guys series. Students are continuing to develop a “choose your own adventure” style digital text - some of these are very imaginative and funny!

We can’t wait for camp tomorrow!!! If you have any last minute questions about camp, please contact me this afternoon. In regard to medication, please remember to bring labelled in a zip lock bag, with a clear set of dosage instructions that is handed to me in the morning. Please also be at the Buninyong Campus by 8.30am, ready for the bus to leave at 9am. We aim to be back at Buninyong normal school time on Friday afternoon. If we are running late, we will communicate via Compass. With the forecast for lots of rain, don’t forget to pack a raincoat!

Have a great week everyone,

Jarrod

Specialist News

The author study was a fun way to begin the term, with a Japanese focus on ookii and chisai (big and small) relating to The Brother Quibble, as well as self  introductions of Aaron’s much loved characters. SC1 and SC2 will continue to study Ookii and Chisai in more detail during Term 4, along with some more descriptive language. Please see below for some short videos from last week!

Japanese Day:

As this term is so Jam-packed with things to think about and remember for various events, I just wanted to remind you all in advance that our Nihon Matsuri (Japanese festival day) is coming up on November 4th. For those who are new to our school, this is a wonderful day which is held annually at our Buninyong Campus, on which the students dress up in Japanese-influenced costumes and participate in a range of rotation activities. For the first time in a couple of years (Thanks, COVID) we have been able to hire some facilitators to come in and run incursions for our students, so we are very excited!! Please start to have a think now about your students’ costumes- they can be anything which is at all related to Japanese culture eg anime characters, Karate uniform, red and white colours to represent the flag, kimonos etc etc. Come and chat to me at the gate after school on Tuesday or Wednesday if you need ideas! It might be possible to coordinate your Japanese Day costume with Halloween trick or treating if this is something your family usually participates in, to save some time and money!
