Silver Duke of Edinburgh - Four-day Mitchell River Rafting trip

Over a four-day period, the Year 10 Duke of Edinburgh class embarked on their second adventurous journey by taking up the challenge of rafting the Mitchell river. Five rafts, two of which were student lead, begun the journey at Angusvale which took them through the magnificent Mitchell River National Park, through 30+ kilometres of white- water challenges immersed with peaceful stretches of water. I am happy to share with you, that I believe that all students were pushed out of their comfort zone at some point of our journey. This is where the real personal growth occurs. The students were amazing in their personal conduct, teamwork and leadership and their ability to navigate the challenges of Grade 3+ rapids.  I am so proud of each and every one of them and it was an absolute delight to witness first hand the growth in their interpersonal skills, confidence and resilience. I would like to thank Mr Rutherford for accompanying us on our journey and embracing the true spirit of our trip.

Senior VCAL PDS

This Semester the Year 12 Senior VCAL students have been collecting data on teenager inactivity, researching programs in our local community that combat this and applying this knowledge to develop a project. In consultation with Mr Ballagh, students decided upon constructing a Gaga Ball pit in the Eastern area of the school. Students were required to plan, design, source materials and work to a budget all of which was presented to our Facilities coordinator. Students donned their work clothes and worked tirelessly to measure, mark out, prepare and construct the structure. I would like to thank Adam Rosenfeld and Mark whose assistance was pivotal to our completion.

In Term 4, the Senior VCAL students will be hosting a Gaga Ball pit tournament with the Year 7 level during Aspire. We look forward to seeing students using this amazing resource during recess, lunchtimes and PE classes.

Intermediate VCAL Project

Our Intermediate VCAL class has worked on the English building renovation project this term. After carrying out thorough planning and organising, the class raised purchase orders and made the necessary purchases. Students painted the railings, polished the deck, designed a raised desk, and installed garden beds as a part of this project.
