Grade 3/4 Students

Celebrating our tremendous Threes and fabulous Fours !

3/4A - Ms Yvette and Mrs Hunter

Term 4 has begun with diligence, zest, and a sense of fun for Grade 3/4A.

During Writing sessions, we have been thoroughly enjoying the Poetry unit, learning about and using devices such as onomatopoeia, metaphors, similes, alliteration, personification and much more. Poetry styles such as Limericks, Haikus, and Cinquains have been modelled and created. One activity drew inspiration from Graeme Base’s ‘Animalia’ and as a class, we thoroughly enjoyed making our own class version of the alphabet with alliteration:

In Maths, there has been much talk of pizza and chocolate, as we have dived into the Fractions unit! Here students created a fraction number line, and could see how equivalent fractions worked, for example that 1/2 = 3/6 = 4/8, etc.

Students should be proud of their diary use and organisation of late, and our at home reading and practising of times tables should continue daily.

3/4B - Mr Bolger

This week in 3/4B, we’ve been starting to have a look at Poetry. We analysed different Similes and Metaphors and discussed why they are an effective tool when writing poems.

The students then practised writing their own similes and used a Google Document to share them with each other. These skills will come in handy as we write our poems over the next few weeks!

3/4C - Mr Lewis

We have started the term investigating fractions in Maths. One of the activities included making fraction walls. A fraction wall is a visual representation that allows students to learn, compare and identify fractions, set out in the form of a wall. This is a great way to help students begin to understand the basics of fractions and to identify equivalence.

This term we have started a new class novel. We are reading ‘Wonder’ by R.J Palacio. The students have already started completing reading responses including character visualisations, predicting and summarising. If your child has a copy of this book at home, they are encouraged to bring it into class so they can follow and participate in the reading.

3/4D - Mr Mitch

This week in 3/4D, we have introduced our new fractions topic. We have been learning to identify and compare fractions. The students have been busy designing their very own fraction flags along with a fractions clothesline (Osha W & Taneer L)

3/4E - Miss Margarita

This week, we began our fraction unit. Students explored folding paper strips into halves, quarters and eighths and discussed what happens each time we fold the same strip in half again. We then worked on folding equal thirds, fifths and sixths. They used their understanding to place fractions on a number line. Some students were already linking up equivalent fractions on their number line- wow!
