Class Celebrations

Foundation

In writing this term we have been working extremely hard on our narratives. Students have followed the Writing Cycle to create their own story. First they came up with an idea, then drafted and crafted it before editing it with help from their teacher. Students published their stories independently while focussing on their handwriting and presentation.

During the process we also explored the Writing Traits of Organisation, Sentence Fluency and Conventions.

Grade 1

Reading- Learning about the important elements of a narrative

Over the past 4 weeks, grade one students have been delving deeply into the important elements that make a fictional narrative. Students have been developing their understanding of how characters and setting are crafted by authors whilst learning about problems and the concept of "cause and effect". Students have used a wide range of mentor texts to investigate story problems and have learnt to use a Story Roller-coaster, "What's yout problem?" entry and Cause and Effect to plot the problem or what we call the "Uh oh, Uh oh, Phew!"

Grade 4

It has been another busy couple of weeks in the Grade 4s! In reading the students have focused on identifying persuasive devices in texts they read and providing evidence for their observations. In writing we are continuing our work on persuasive writing and the students have been following the writer's process to produce a piece about something they are passionate about. In maths we have focused on the topics of measuring angles and using a scale to make maps.

In addition to our usual lessons our garden program continues to run strongly. On the morning of the 29th of November (the Tuesday before our camp) the students will be using vegetables and fruit planted in our garden to do some cooking! The morning will be a celebration of all the amazing work the Grade 4s have done in the garden this year. If any parents would like to help out we are seeking two helpers for each class, please contact your child's teacher directly.

Grade 5

Last week, the Grade 5s were lucky enough to go away to Cave Hill Creek Camp.

We did lots of fun activities including canoeing, biking, and hut building which was really fun seeing everyone working together as a team. We also had fun doing archery and a scavenger hunt. Despite the wet weather, everyone enjoyed slipping and sliding in the mud! We would really like to thank all the teachers and parent helpers for sacrificing their time for us and planning a really good experience!

Grade 6

Last week our Year 6 students attended camp at Kangaroobie in Princetown. The sun was shining, and the students were full of excitement and enthusiasm as we arrived on Monday. The first afternoon was spent down by the Gellibrand River where students enjoyed a dip in the water, sand tobogganing and some fun beach games. On the second day, students participated in multiple activities, including canoeing, farm activities and obstacle courses, where everyone was able to work on their teamwork, resilience and bravery skills. On the final day we visited the twelve apostles before returning back to school. The camp was full of fun, laughter, great food and ever better company!
