Year 8 Food - Cooking Competition

Year 8 Food Competition

With the many challenges of remote learning came the opportunity to have some fun in Food and Technology. Year 8 students were undoubtedly in favour of ditching the theory and jumping into the kitchen for two rounds of Cooking Competitions. Students led a discussion of how they would like to see practical classes run during Remote Learning. By a landslide vote, cooking competitions were the clear way to go.

Week 8 Term 3 saw Nadia Khan (8B) take out first prize with her Mars Bar Slice and Jaxon Gooney Pace (8C) taking out first prize for his Marshmallow Slice under the theme ‘Tasty Treat’ and ‘Something Sweet’ respectively... Clearly the humble slice has now taken on a new and well-deserved place as #1 treat.

The year 8s stepped up their game for another round of competitions in week 9, Term 3. 8B went in strong with ‘Beverages’ as the theme. A big congratulations to Cooper McCallum who took out both First and Second place for his Crazy Shakes which were both clear winners! Casey Dunnel wasn’t far behind with her lemonades which certainly puts the previously ‘no frills soft drink’ in a light it has never seen before!

8C went in a different direction and voted on ‘Take-away’ meals as their chosen theme. Kristy Nagy was the clear winner with her mouth-watering Sushi Platter earning her a solid 5-star victory, the first and only perfect score card for the competition! A well-earned win!

Well done to all the participants!
