Principal's Report
October
On Thursday the Year 12 students and their teachers gathered in the student plaza to acknowledge and celebrate their final day of school. Thirteen years of schooling completed for these young people.
What an incredibly challenging year it has been for everyone, especially our Year 12 students who have missed the most face-to-face teaching days of any Year 12 cohort before them. We are very proud of you and your teachers for the way you have been resilient and strong this year.
As this chapter in your lives comes to an end, a new chapter begins. I hope Greensborough College has laid the foundations for you to be thoughtful, caring, compassionate people who will be positive contributors to society. On behalf of the school community I wish all of you the very best in everything you set out to do.
There is not much time left, so work hard and give it everything you have got in this final sprint. We wish you all the best for the upcoming exam and assessment period.
In this newsletter you will find a very moving piece written by one of our teachers, Shane Maloney. During the final assembly online, Shane shared his reflections with the Class of 2021 and the whole College. I invite you to read Shane’s story of the Class of 2021.
On Friday 29th October, we recognise World Teachers’ Day when we will honour and celebrate our teachers who have responded to this year’s trying circumstances with typical commitment, compassion, patience and expertise. The theme for World Teachers’ Day is most appropriately“Bright Future – Follow Along”. There will be some fun activities to engage with on our social media platforms.
The rest of the school is returning to the site in a staggered fashion. Here is the table outlining the days each year level is on site.
Year level | Date of return | Days of week |
7 | Friday 22nd October | Monday to Friday |
8 | Tuesday 26th October | Tuesdays and Wednesdays |
9 | Tuesday 26th October | Tuesdays and Wednesdays |
10 | Friday 22nd October | Thursdays and Fridays |
11 | Friday 22nd October | Monday to Friday |
All Students on site for face to face teaching and learning | Friday 5th November |
The College has organised a program for students as they return to site. The program will include a refresher on the health and safety expectations and the College’s values and behaviour expectations.
The teaching team will focus on student engagement and wellbeing throughout the term. We will also have a focus on supporting students to re-engage and to catch up. Those students who have thrived during remote learning will be challenged and extended. The College will also focus on providing a range of activities to help students reconnect with their peers and the school. The activity types will be dependent on what is permissible as the restrictions ease.
We look forward to welcoming our students back to onsite learning full time, very soon.
Thank you again, for all your support throughout the year.
