Selamat siang!

Only one more week left of Remote Learning! The teachers are all SO excited to be coming back to school and working with the students in the classroom again on the 26th of October. Thank you to all parents for your continued support over these crazy two years. Last week, the 3/4 teachers began Reading Conference zoom meetings with students in our class to complete some one-on-one assessment. If your child has not yet had a session, please check Sentral for calendar invite links and if possible, it would be great if you could select one block of time for the one-to-one assessment. We ask that due to the one-to-one nature of the assessment that they are conducted in close proximity to a parent or carer (Parents and carers are not required to be in the Zoom session). If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.

During Literacy sessions last week, students spent time choosing new SMART goals for Term 4. It was excellent to see students looking back at past mathematics assessments and looking at old pieces of writing to think carefully about areas that they would like to improve on this term. These new goals can be found on Seesaw and students will again work on collecting evidence over the course of the term to show their progress towards achieving their goals. Stay tuned!

Students continued to work on fractions last week, practising both adding and subtracting them together. With mild, spicy and extra spicy options, students had the opportunity to add and subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators. Students that chose tasks with unlike denominators needed to practise finding equivalent fractions and using the ‘lowest common denominator’ strategy. It was excellent to see a lot of students challenging themselves with the spicy and extra spicy options!

Each week, students have a choice board with 4 different activities, one each for Wellbeing, First Nations, Guided Inquiry and STEM. Although this week was only a 3 day week, teachers encourage students to choose one task from this board each day to complete so that by the end of the week, they have successfully worked through each learning area. In Guided Inquiry last week, students had the opportunity to brainstorm possible ideas for our stop motion projects that will be happening later this term when we return to onsite. In STEM, students spent time outside using sunlight and shadow to investigate the effect of time on the shadow of different objects. Students revisited the idea of ‘public’ versus ‘private’ information in our Wellbeing task (a particularly important idea to revisit while using technology so regularly at the moment) and investigated different Dreaming Stories using the Wingaru app for our First Nations connections.

We hope you have a wonderful week,

Mr Dix, Miss Gasowski, Mrs McCoy, Miss Molloy, Mr O’Connor and Miss Richardson :)

Pupil of the Week

3/4D: Charlie W -

Well done using your love of learning when using feedback to improve your learning in remote learning. Keep up the champion effort Charlie!

3/4G: Yasmine L -

Congratulations on using bravery and perseverance when challenging yourself to add fractions with different denominators. Your hard work is paying off! Yay for Yasmine!

3/4K: Blake F -

Well done for challenging yourself and using bravery when subtracting fractions last week. You worked with a partner to find equivalent fractions with the same denominator and confidently explained each step of the process. Brilliant, Blake!

3/4M: Alya K -

For demonstrating a love of learning and dedication to improving your work during Remote Learning, particularly when working with fractions last week. I love the way you listen to my feedback each day, take the time to apply it to your work and politely reply to me. Amazing, Alya!

3/4O: Joshua N -

For demonstrating teamwork and a love of learning. You have continued to be eager to share your knowledge and engage with your classmates in discussions.  You have helped to extend all of our thinking and you should be proud of yourself.  Thank you Jolly Joshua, you are outstanding!

3/4R: Jarvis G -

For demonstrating perseverance and a love of learning when adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. It was fantastic to see your efforts pay off during our Mini Maths sessions and see your growing confidence with fractions! Jolly effort, Jarvis :)
