Specialist Report - STEM
Celebrating a whirlwind year in STEM!
In this final newsletter update for STEM I'd like to share with you some of the of the great things that have happened in the past two terms.
Starting off with National Science Week we had a great success in hosting three events after school during remote learning. We had great attendance with over 300 students, parents and teachers attending the events across the three days. We had a great time making pollen catchers, learning about crazy food sciences and the history of bananas.
During Term 4 students have been investigating emojis and how we use them in the digital world to communicate. We've seen unique emoji designs created and student become forensic scientists, looking at facial features to give clues about the emotions people are sharing. In the final few weeks we've been covering what we have learned in terms 1, 2 and 3 of 2021 (both on-site and via remote learning).
With the end of 2021 in sight, I'd like to greatly thank Harvinjeet Singh and Angad Aulakh for their service as our STEM Captains. They had some great successes in running a lunch-time club before Lockdown 6.0 hit.
Finally, looking forward to 2022, I'm very excited to announce that I will no longer be alone... in teaching STEM in the communities of AHPS. Introducing Amber Vincent (5/6 Community Teacher 2019-2021 @ AHPS) who will be increasing our team's capacity by 100% and then some! WE are very excited to start planning for more fun and learning in 2022.
Take care, and see you next year!
