School Council Report

 Council report

Last week the school council met online to discuss school business. With a mixture of hope, anxiety and excitement we discussed how we are looking forward to the transition back into ‘normal’ schooling.

It was noted in the Financial Report that camp fees and excursion credits were being processed back to families. Some families have chosen to donate these fees to the school and we thank them for this generosity.

You will notice the beautiful bright markings in the play spaces around the school thanks to a Bendigo Bank grant, and the ongoing development of the sensory garden that have been worked on through the period of remote learning. We are still waiting on grants for shade and redevelopment of the stage, projects that School Council are working on in the short to mid-term.

The Communications Sub Committee announced that advertising had gone up around Warrandyte for the pre-Prep ‘Stepping Stones’ program and recruitment of new students. It is great to hear that information sent out to local kinder’s has seen a jump in website traffic and interest in enrolments. Work continues behind the scene keeping the website up to date. Thanks for all your time with this, Communications Team! Nieta reported that staff are looking forward to working with new families and next year’s preps from existing WPS families.

An announcement was made that the funding tutor learning program will continue next year. Staff are working out how this role can be targeted to best support students who need some extra literacy and numeracy support. We congratulate Claire Lambert on continuing in this role and thank her for the excellent work she has done so far.

Finally, the Friends of Warrandyte Primary School (FOWPS) have a few upcoming fundraising events to look out for; the online Silent Auction, student art fundraiser and Hop and Vine wine fundraiser. Eliza is planning to get the art done in classes over the next few weeks, still giving parents enough time to order and receive merchandise before the end of the school year. We have started collecting donations for the Silent Auction and hope to hold the event in mid-late November. We are hoping to generate some ‘experience’ prizes from our talented community such as ‘learn to cook’ with a chef or a coaching session with an A grade footy player. Meg Bailey is coordinating the prizes so please contact her if you have any ideas.
