Message from the Principal Team

Principals' Update

What a Week!

Well, we certainly did not expect that we would be closed before we even opened. Thank you to everyone in our school community for being so supportive during the two days that we were closed this week. We have 37 students and 12 staff who are in quarantine as they were primary close contacts with confirmed cases onsite. We would like to extend our love to these families during this difficult time.

The Leadership Team has certainly learned a lot about contact tracing and the definition of a primary close contact over the past 5 days and the definitions and guidelines are ever-changing! We have been informed that it is highly unlikely that families and staff will be contacted by the Department of Human Services prior to the last day of their quarantine period. That means that school principals have the authority to release those people in quarantine once a negative test result has been received. Thank you to Erin, Jane, Trish and Maddi for going above and beyond to assist me with contacting all staff and families impacted by the cases onsite. Sarah Bekessy and our School Council have also been an amazing support during the past few days.

Some of our staff who are in quarantine are very fortunate to be able to leave quarantine tomorrow as they were fully vaccinated 14 days prior to their exposure. We have others in quarantine who are fully vaccinated, however, the date of their 2nd dose was less than 14 days prior to the date that they were exposed. Those staff are required to quarantine for the full 14 days along with our students.

Welcoming Students Back Onsite

We were very excited to welcome our Foundation students back onsite yesterday and our Year 1/2 students today. We can’t wait to welcome in our Year 5/6s tomorrow.

The best reaction to getting back onsite this week came from a group of 4 Foundation students:

"Yay no grown ups!"

Rachel was quick to point out that she was a grown up...

"Yes but you're not Mummy or Daddy!"

We are clearly all over lockdown and need some space...

Limited Access to Onsite Supervision Week 4

Next week, the following students will return onsite part-time:

We are still offering onsite supervision for eligible families.

There are exemptions for students in the following categories:

Children where both parents and/or carers are considered authorised workers who cannot work from home, work for an essential provider, and where no other supervision arrangements can be made:

  • Where there are two parents/carers, both must be authorised workers, working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision.
  • For single parents/carers, the authorised worker must be working outside the home in order for their children to be eligible for on-site provision.

Children experiencing vulnerability, including:

  • in out-of-home care
  • deemed vulnerable by a government agency, funded family or family violence service, and assessed as requiring education and care outside the family home
  • identified by a school or early childhood service as vulnerable, (including via referral from a government agency, or funded family or family violence service, homeless or youth justice service or mental health or other health service)

Love, Lee Street - Our Cookbook

Over the past 12 months we have had a team of parents slowly marinating an idea for a school cookbook. This idea is now a reality and it is spectacular. There are delicious recipes from CNPS families, students, staff and local restaurants and bars. The cookbook is now ready to pre-order and will make the perfect gift for Christmas.

School Fun Run Fundraiser

We are very excited to have set a date for our School Fun Run Fundraiser. This event is replacing our school walkathon and we are super excited to be holding a colour run at CNPS. We’re four weeks out from our School Fun Run’s Crazy Colour Day! We hope students are working hard towards creating their student profile page.

Currently we have raised $1,583 of our $10,000 goal, so there is a way to go and I hope you’ll keep supporting us!

You can sign up for online fundraising, pick your target prize and even become a fundraising superstar!

Sending positive vibes from the Principal Team
