Professional Learning Community Foundation  (Preps)

Welcome back to our preps for a short time before holidays. We are so excited to have been able to return and hope that it is able to continue into the rest of the year. We have been so impressed by the way most of our students have settled back into school and it is clear that they have missed their friends and a normal school routine. We are hoping to spend this week revising some new knowledge and finally celebrating our 100 days at school.

On Wednesday our preps dressed up as 100 year olds to celebrate 100 days of all things school; unpacking our bags, making new friends, learning school routine etc. This is something we have been looking forward to all year and it will be an incredible day for our preps to cherish.

Just a reminder that when we return in Term 4 our students will be wearing hats again, so this may be a great time to give them a wash and ensure they are returned to school ready to go.

Have a great last week of term everyone!

Professional Learning Community 1  (Grade 1 )

Well we have continued our learning seamlessly from Remote Learning back to Onsite because our students are the best learners going round regardless of where they are, but we were so pleased to see each other face to face!

Since we’ve been at school we have jumped straight in to see exactly where each student is working and where we need to pinpoint our focus moving forward. We have started training for the NUMERO CHAMPIONSHIP with students working on their quick addition and subtraction skills and look forward to this competition next term.

In Writing we are checking in on our handwriting and setting ourselves some personal goals, and during reading time we are digging deep into some Indigenous Texts to discover the author’s purpose. Each class has been lucky enough to attend a Kitchen class as well as some specialist classes and we have loved playing games and reading with each other.

Have a safe and happy break over the holidays, the Grade 1 team.

Professional Learning Community 2 (Grade 2 )

HOW LUCKY ARE WE? That’s right, super lucky. We were able to spend the last week at school with our friends and teachers.

We have been studying the Author – Julia Donaldson. Some of the texts we have looked at are; What the Ladybird Heard, What the Ladybird Heard Next, Tabby McTat and Room on the Broom. We completed a book review to show our understanding of the text. In the holidays you should go on to the website; https://www.juliadonaldson.co.uk/

In Writing, students focussed on procedures. We enjoyed the experience of making a, ‘Lolly Stick Lizard’ and writing a procedure including the title, goal, materials and steps. In the holidays, parents/carers should sit back, relax, and give students a simple procedure to follow – how to vacuum the house or how to make a sandwich.

In Numeracy, students have been working with fractions including the following talking points; numerator, denominator, part and whole, halves, thirds, quarters and fifths. At home, fractions can be used with different materials including; smarties, folding clothes, square of toilet paper, cutting up fruit or a pizza.

Useful websites for students to access;

We can’t believe it is the end of Term 3! We hope you enjoy your school holidays, no school work and no WebEx meetings. Please stay safe and take care of your loved ones. We look forward to seeing you in Term 4! Happy Holidays to you all.

From PLC 2

Professional Learning Community 3 (Grades 3)

Well Grade 3, the end of Term 3 is almost here! PLC 3 teachers cannot believe how fast the 2021 school year has flown by. As the old saying goes, time flies when you're having fun! And when we have had time at school, we have sure had fun! We can't wait to be back at school together, whenever that may be!

We are so proud of our PLC 3 students and families for navigating another round of remote learning. You are all superstars and deserve a nice two-weeks of holidays ahead.

Students have continued to log on to WebEx meeting each day and engage together online. During reading time, students have been able to build their reading stamina, leave tracks of their thinking, summarise, and clarify new and interesting words. Some students have enjoyed going the extra mile and reading and researching about a topic of interest.

In Writing, students have used TI123CC to plan a narrative called " Through the Doorway". Many students have continued to give writing a 'Red Hot Go!" during remote learning and have taken on feedback each week to improve. In Numeracy this week, students have played games to build their maths reasoning and strategy. We hope the games have been fun and a nice change of pace for all! Some students have not had a chance to return their Bike Ed forms, please do so when we are back at school.

Enjoy a restful break, keep up the positive attitudes as we will see you all back at school soon.

P.S by the time you will be reading this, Miss Steenhuis's wedding count down will have hit 38 days! Some exciting news to look forward to!

Professional Learning Community 4 (Grades 4)

Well we have made it through another term and what a term it was. We would like to start by saying thank you to our PLC 4 students and families for the hard work and support of our remote learning program. We are very proud of the students and the high level of work they have continued to produce and this wouldn’t have happened unless they had help from home. We really appreciate it.

We hope you all have a lovely, well deserved break over the school holidays and enjoy some warmer weather as Spring has sprung.

Hopefully we will be back at school next term for face to face teaching – fingers crossed!!

Take care,

PLC 4 Teachers

Professional Learning Community 5 (Grades 5)

We have nearly made it! After a crazy, unpredictable Term 3 we have made it to the holiday break. From all of the teachers in PLC 5 we just wanted to send a massive thank you to all of our students who have persisted through these challenging times to put their best foot forward during the Remote Learning period. We are so proud of the engagement and the willingness to attend each virtual day with a smile on their face. We also just wanted to give a massive shout out to the parents/ carers of our students for their ongoing support throughout this time. It was a term full of challenges and without you our Remote Learning Program wouldn’t be possible. So THANK YOU!

Don’t forget that applications to become a school leader for 2022 are due on the 17th September. Students are expected to fill out an  EOI (Expression of Interest) form and answer a set of 5 questions on why they believe they could make a great leader for our school. This completed form can be shared with Mr Phillips  via Google Classroom at phillips.scott.a@delacombeps.vic.edu.au. If there are any troubles with completing or sending this form please have your child contact their classroom teacher.

In our last week of Remote Learning we have several fun, engaging activities planned. In Numeracy, we are looking at completing an investigation on finding Delacombe’s Ultimate Gamer. The students have been asked to play a set of games over a number of trials and then record, graph and interpret their results. In Reading this week we are looking at the skill of summarising. Students are asked to watch several videos related to the topic of a circus, they are then expected to complete a detailed summary of what occurred in the clip as well as being asked to identify new or interesting words that will expand their vocabulary. In Writing this week the students are working on creating their own picture story books. Some of these are absolutely fantastic and I encourage everyone to ask to see their own child’s work so they can share their story with you.

Once again, thank you so much for your support during this weird and unpredictable Term 3.

Enjoy the HOLIDAYS.

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grades 6)

Wow, what a term it has been! Here in PLC 6 we are still plodding along with Remote Learning. Over the last 2 weeks we have focused on how we go about developing characters and the different layers that make up a good character.

In Reading we have been developing students comprehension of the Once text and this week students are working on building their fluency by creating a performance; I’m looking forward to seeing what amazing pieces students can create.

Last week in Numeracy we worked on solving worded problems, encouraging students to read each question carefully and use all available information. This week they are developing their knowledge of coordinates and we have even chucked in a game or two of Battle Ship - you may like to create your own grids at home to play a family game.

We have also just completed our second Murder Mystery as a PLT, this has helped to spread the fun and laughter around with students putting on some great accents and really taking on their role!

We hope that you all have a lovely break and we are keeping our fingers crossed that we will be able to be back on site to begin Term 4!
