From the Principal

The Revd Peter Laurence OAM presenting ASC Service Awards, September 2021.

This has been a particularly enjoyable fortnight to bring Term 3 to a close. In recent days, the Annual Art Exhibition, held in the Technology Centre and Primary Art Room, featured wonderful artworks from Primary and Secondary students. Each year I am amazed at the skill and expertise of our young artists and this year was no exception. Congratulations to all involved particularly our Visual Art team of Luke Morgan, Jeanette Lyons, Amanda Lin and Elsofie Dowd.  Thank you also to the many families who visited the Exhibition this year, the children love you to see their artwork.

On Wednesday evening our Music students showcased their talent in our inaugural Concert in the Quad. Families enjoyed a picnic and sausage sizzle whilst listening to the Senior and Middle Rock Bands play covers of popular songs of the past 40 years. Many also visited the Art Exhibition. It was a great night with perfect weather. Thank you to the Café and Hospitality staff and students, and the performers under the direction of Music Co-ordinator, Rory Marchant.

Our Year 6 and 10 students had a terrific final week participating in their Encounters. The Year 6s enjoyed their Boshack outback experience near Bolgart.

The Year 10s hiked part of the Cape to Cape enjoying the spectacular scenery of the south coast.

Encounters are designed to build students' resilience, develop new skills and provide opportunities for individual and collective learning in different environments. Thank you to the staff involved in these important co-curricular activities for our students.

Staff News

We extend our best wishes to Health and Physical Education teacher, Brendan Kilmartin who will be taking leave for Term 4. We wish him a refreshing break.

It was a pleasure to welcome Anglican Schools Commission Chief Executive Officer the Reverend Peter Laurence OAM to present service awards to three long-serving staff. Archivist, Carol Lander has completed 30 years of outstanding service in a variety of roles. Education Assistant, Julie Denton has completed 20 years of excellent service working across the School supporting the students. I am proud to have served the School for 20 years and seen so much change for the betterment of the students over that time.

The School's recruitment and selection process for staff for 2022 is well underway.  I am pleased to announce that Megan Lefroy and Jessica Brown have been appointed substantively to the positions of Head of Inclusive Education and Head of Health and Physical Education respectively. They were the best applicants in competitive fields and I congratulate them on their promotions. We continue to seek a School Psychologist. Unfortunately, there is a market shortage and we have been unable to make an appointment when we have previously advertised. I hope, on this occasion, we are successful. The School will continue to access the visiting psychology service through the Association of Independent Schools of WA.

Year 12 Mock Examinations

Whilst most families will be enjoying a break from the school routine in the coming fortnight, spare a thought for our Year 12 ATAR students who will be writing their Mock Examinations during the holidays. This is a stressful time with students' school lives drawing to a close and final examinations looming. We wish them well.

With good wishes for a relaxing break with your children.
