30 September TISC Applications Close

Year 12s really are on the downhill run. TISC applications close on 30 September. Check

dates HERE.

Results will be out on 19 December this year.

New courses at UWA

UWA is promoting that it has a new suite of courses.

After looking at them, they seem to still focus on a solid foundation, but they are promoting the amount of flexibility that you can design into the courses.

They are, for example, promoting “Extended Majors”. A standard bachelor’s degree comprises of 8 to 12 units. Extended majors comprise of more than 12 units.
New combinations of subjects, and
Extensions of bachelor’s degrees so that they dovetail into master’s degrees.

26- 30 September UWA Application Week Help

Come along to our Future Students Centre between Monday 27 to Thursday 30 September from 8.30am - 5pm, to get help with your application and have all your questions about applying answered. We’ll be on hand to offer advice and support to help you figure out which path is right for you.

If you’re unable to attend or you would like to book an in-depth one-on-one consult, you can book a virtual appointment online.

Enabling Programs @ UWA

Students will be eligible to study a bachelor degrees once they’ve successfully completed a graded Australian University Enabling Program that satisfies our entry requirements with an average of 65%.

Students completing one of these programs as part of WACE and attending a Broadway

school will only require a 60% average. Completion of an Enabling Program will satisfy UWA’s English Language Competency requirements.

Supported Gap Year Positions Available for 2022

Letz Live have continued to operate throughout the pandemic, providing Gap Year and Working Holiday programmes for school leavers. Positions are available for their January 2022 intake to New Zealand, The United Kingdom and Thailand.

Travel exemptions are being granted to applicants for working holiday programmes, and we currently have participants overseas.

A Gap Year with Letz Live sees participants placed as an assistant in a Boarding School where they are paid with all meals and accommodation included. Letz Live supports young people taking a Gap Year all the way through from start to finish, connecting participants to a network of Gap Year friends, with Country Managers overseas.

Notre Dame Applications Through TISC

Students wanting to go to Notre Dame will be able apply through TISC from 2 August.

This partnership will have a significant impact on streamlining the application process for Year 12s. Students will now be able to apply for the 5 biggest universities in WA through the TISC site.

A critical consideration in the partnership was continuing Notre Dame’sconsideration of

personal qualities beyond academic performance.

Notre Dame also considers applicants’ interests, aspirations, out of school activities, work experience and community involvement, as well as academic achievement, in assessing them for entry to our courses.

The 2022 TISC Guide will be distributed to Western Australian Schools from the second week of Term 3. This will provide further information on the application process to all TISC member universities.

Chemistry and Physics Offered in Bachelor of Education Secondary

Our nationally accredited Bachelor of Education (Secondary) now offers two specialist science majors:

Chemistry Education Major
Physics Education Major

These majors, available on our Joondalup campus, have been designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to teach Years 7 to 12 Chemistry and/or Physics and provides the extended content knowledge needed to address the demands and opportunities of the secondary school chemistry and physics curriculum.

For students interested in the Chemistry Education Major it is desirable that all applicants have ATAR Chemistry.

All applicants for the Physics Education Major are required to demonstrate satisfactory performance in Physics ATAR, with equivalents considered.

A Day in the Life of a University Student (Year 9 & 10 Students) – Wednesday, 29 & Thursday, 30 September 2021

Experience what it is like to be a university student for the day! Take part in hands on activities, meet new friends and explore Murdoch University’s Perth (South Street) campus.

You will create a customised university timetable of hands-on activities in subjects that interest you, speak with current Murdoch University students studying in those areas and learn more of their pathway to university, and be inspired by our academics.

There are a wide variety of workshops on offer across the sciences, health, humanities, and creative arts disciplines, find out more in the Workshops section below.

The event will run on both Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 September. Please choose only one day to attend. The program is identical on both days.

18 August AVCAT Scholarships Open for 2021

To be eligible to apply for AVCAT scholarship you must:

be planning to enrol or be enrolled in TAFE or university education
have Australian residency
be the child or grandchild as defined by an Australian ex-serving veteran.
be receiving, or be eligible to receive, Centrelink Youth Allowance or an equivalent educational payment (use the Centrelink calculator to check your estimated entitlements)

Pathways to VET for those without their WACE or OLNA

The Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) is designed to enable students to successfully meet the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) literacy and numeracy requirements.

There are several alternative pathways to TAFE for school students who do not achieve an OLNA:

Vocational pathway (VET in schools): school students who complete a vocational course while at school can rely on their AQF qualification to demonstrate their literacy and numeracy skills(this is included in the guide) i.e. students can achieve an OLNA or a Certificate I, II or III to gain entry to a TAFE course (with the exception of qualifications within the Foundation studies training package (FSK);
TAFE Admissions testing: TAFE Admissions adopted the reading and numeracy modules of the OLNA as its literacy and numeracy testing tool. Subject to verification with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority, school students may be eligible to register for TAFE Admissions testing if they have not sat the OLNA at school within the six months preceding TAFE Admissions testing and if they have not exhausted their maximum six attempts at the OLNA while of compulsory school age;
Alternative assessment: students can be referred to the learning area at their preferred TAFE college for a Learning Area Assessment;
- Students can enrol at any Certificate I level,as there are no entryand
- Students can enrol into one of the foundation skills and equitycourses.
