Year 3/4–Celebrating Learning

3/4 - Mainstream

For the past three weeks grades 3 and 4 students have taken a deep dive into poetry. They have read, analysed and written: acrostic poems, a poem in which the first letters of each line spell out a word or phrase; haiku, a japanese form made of short, unrhymed lines with a specific syllable structure; and most recently rhyming poetry, in particular limericks. Our poetry unit has provided us with the perfect platform to hone our descriptive and figurative language skills, including adjectival phrases, imagery, and alliteration. We have had the opportunity to use the rich language from our mentor poems in our vocabulary studies, unpacking and applying words such as: lustre, summon, and defame. The 3/4 teachers have been so impressed with the artistry, comedy, and rigour displayed by students during this unit.

Steiner - 3S

3S have continued to go through the rhythm and routine of morning circle, learning new verses and songs online in preparation for return to school. Students have learnt ‘The Shepard’ as well as the song ‘I Will Go With My Father’, both traditional pieces to recite at this time of year in Class 3. They lend themselves closely to the harvesting of the wheat crop that we planted earlier in the year. At school we focused on developing our confidence back in the classroom and regaining social connections with each other. The children were very excited to get back to some form drawing and the prospect of painting when we came back to the class. Orchestra continued online with Caitlin where students made up their own songs and followed along learning new notes and gaining confidence playing as part of a larger ensemble.

Steiner - 4S

The teachers and students of 4S have been engaged in fun and games during the morning circle session. We’ve been singing and dancing to contemporary and traditional songs as well as enjoying recitation and eurythmy to start the day. The children have been joyfully performing for one another to practise the importance of clear communication in our Respectful Relationships lessons. Here is a short film of our interpretative dancing to a 90s pop song and photos of communicating through mime for one another.
