Year 1/2–Celebrating Learning

1/2 - Mainstream

Year 1/2 students have been learning about what constitutes a sentence and the four different types of sentences they can use in their writing. Children have been able to put this knowledge into practise through the writer’s workshop process; planning, drafting, revising and editing their own narratives.

We have also been working on solving addition and subtraction worded problems in Mathematics over the past few weeks. We focused on the problem solving strategies of circling the numbers, underlining clue words and drawing a bar model to help represent the problem. They also wrote their own maths problems/stories to share with their small Google Meets.

Steiner - 1S

We are so excited to get straight back into the swing of things in our classroom.  The children have shown a genuine love of returning to face to face teaching and being with each other in our room.  Here they are enjoying active play; making cubbies, drawing with their friends, building a city and painting a Spring painting.

Steiner - 2S

Children resonate deeply with legends and fables, recognizing both the everyday attributes of humans which are shown through animals, and those saintly qualities that human beings can strive towards. During Main Lessons, children listened to animal fables and were introduced to the four types of sentences. They consolidated long vowel sounds, and continued to hone their skills in summarising by identifying the main ideas, as opposed to retelling stories with lots of detail. Children have been able to put this knowledge into practise through the writer’s workshop process; planning, drafting, revising and editing their own narratives.

In Mathematics, we have been working on solving and writing our own addition and subtraction worded problems.

Here are some examples of our classwork:
