Nursing as a career

Have you ever considered a career in nursing?  Nurses fall into two main categories: Enrolled Nurses or Registered Nurses.

  • To qualify as an enrolled nurse, you are usually required to complete a diploma or advanced diploma which takes approximately 1.5 – 2 years.  These courses are delivered at TAFE colleges.
  • To qualify as a registered nurse, you will need to complete a degree course at university.  These courses take approximately three years.  Higher qualifications lead to a higher range of duties, more responsibility and higher remuneration.

Employment rates have grown strongly over the past 5 years and are expected to continue to grow strongly over the next five years.  Apart from helping and caring for others, nurses need to monitor people and processes, keep their knowledge up to date, make decisions and problem solve.
