Newlands Cross Country Carnival

6th May at Jackson Reserve in Coburg

The Newlands Cross Country Carnival will be taking place this term on Friday 6th May (Thursday 12th May back-up day). This year the event will take place at Jackson Reserve in Coburg from 10am -2:45pm. Students must come to school in the morning as usual. Then, class teachers, staff members and students will walk together to the location.

Students must wear their house colours. A hat/sunscreen/rain jacket are recommended depending on weather condition. Spiked footwear is not permitted. Please ensure your children bring a small bag with lunch box, snacks, and bottle of water.  It is recommended your children sleep a minimum of 9 or 10 hours the night before and have a nutritious breakfast before coming to school. This will help them have enough energy to perform at their best!

Grade 4/5/6 students will be departing school at 9:00 a.m.

Prep and Year 1 students will walk with their teachers to Edgars Creek Parkland (next to Athletic track) in the morning, where they will be cheering on the older ones and participating in games and activities. At 12:00 p.m. the 2-3  students will walk with their class group and teachers to the Athletic Track.

The program is as follows:

  • Event 1 (10.30am): Year 6 race – 3km
  • Event 2 (11.00am): Year 5 race – 3km
  • Event 3 (11.30am): Year 4 race – 2km
  • Event 4 (12.30pm): Prep/Year 1 race – 400m. Races to run in double class groups.
  • Event 5 (1pm): Year 2 race – 1km
  • Event 6 (1.20pm): Year 3 race – 1km

All races start and finish at the Athletic Track. Years 2-6 racecourses include a run section in Edgars Creek Parkland (outside of Athletic Track).

Parents and caregivers are invited to come along and cheer on our students!

Students who come 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th in Grades 4, 5 and 6 will be asked to represent Newlands Primary School at the SSV Coburg District Cross-Country Championships on Wednesday 18th May.
