Riversdale Principals seminar

Recently the Principal, Ms Karvouni, and the Assistant Principals, Ms Satilmis and I attended a seminar bringing together school leaders from our school network.  The main purpose of the day was to reinforce key educational initiatives, to share school experiences and build professional networks.  These days are most important as Auburn High is able to learn what other schools are doing well and use this to improve our program.  Discussions often give us confidence that Auburn is doing a great job and in many areas like differentiation, common teaching practice, wellbeing and School values; we are well ahead of other schools.  Thank you to the whole school community who play their own role in the achievements of our school.

Hawthorn Rotary Club programs

Auburn High School and the Hawthorn Rotary Club have a long-standing partnership in providing opportunities for our students.  This week Rotarians are on site conducting mock interviews with our Year 10 students.  This was an invaluable experience for students who are, or soon will be applying for jobs or scholarships that require a formal application and interview process.  In addition to this, there will be opportunities coming up for students to attend the National Youth Science Forum, Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment and the Model United Nations Assembly.  Students and parents are encouraged to look out for messages asking for nominations.

Many thanks to the Rotary Club of Hawthorn for their support and tireless contribution to providing exceptional opportunities for our students.

Teach the teacher session

As teachers and students continue to enjoy the return to on-site learning, the Leadership Team is constantly working on ways to add value to our teaching and learning programs.  Auburn High School bases all decisions on educational evidence that is collected either in class, through surveys (e.g. PIVOT), or education testing (e.g. NAPLAN).  This week students presented to staff on the findings of the PIVOT surveys.  This is student feedback on individual staff in specific classes.  The information is invaluable for staff as it provides clarity on how the students want to learn and aspects of teaching that are most impactful.  Thanks to Ms Price for leading the PIVOT cycle and the many students who presented to staff and reinforced messages in conversations with staff.

Parent Teacher Student conferences

Thank you to parents, staff and students for the successful Parent Teacher Student conferences over the last two weeks.  This a chance to meet each other, discuss the successes and any areas of growth or goals for the future.  If there is a need for further discussion or follow up, please contact the relevant staff, Year Level Leader, or Wellbeing Coordinator.  Check the calendar dates for the next round of interviews in Term 3.

End of term reflections

The excitement of the return to school has been real.  Students and staff have enjoyed the return to classrooms, sport, music lessons, lunchtime clubs and camps.  The social value of school was missed and the energy around the school would indicate that connections, engagements and the fun of adolescence is alive and well.  After ten weeks of excitement and activity there are some tired parents, students and staff.  Rest up and we look forward to a productive Term 2.
