Grade 3/4

-Term 1 Reflection-

This term for maths, we have been learning about place value, addition, subtraction and regrouping. It has been so much fun!

In Writing, we have been learning about narratives and persuasive texts. We wrote our own persuasive text as well!

In Reading, we started the term by reading the book ‘A Different Dog’, we then studied Jeannie Baker and the book The Gift. We would all love to do it again!

In Inquiry, we have been learning about feelings and emotions and how to control them. We also saw healthy Harold when he came to ACPS! It was so much fun! With Harold, we learned about cyber safety and how to not get cyberbullied.

In PE, we were also doing some footy and cricket clinics! They were so much fun!

At the start of the term, we did our swimming carnival! That was so exciting and we all loved it! Near the end of the term, we had the Warrandyte festival! Lots of people went and we had a blast!

We loved all that we did in term 1! Such as PE, Art Music and Italian. See you all next term!

Term 1 Reflection

In Writing this term we learnt about persuasives and the structure of a persuasive piece. At the start of the year we looked at narratives and did some revision of how to plan and build a story. I personally enjoyed writing my persuasive piece on why students need a big break.

In Reading we were making lots of predictions, questions and summaries on a Paul Jennings book called A Different Dog. We also did comprehension. All of these things helped us to make sense and understand what we read.

In Maths, we have been doing lots of stuff such as addition, ordering, place value, estimating and measuring length, width area and perimeter as well as learning about decimals and data. My personal favourite area in maths was when we did measuring as we got to throw ninja stars and measure them in a competition.

For Inquiry we made strong emotions thermometer in which we showed how emotions where different. We also made our own people out of paper and wrote on them what our personal strengths were.

Term 1 2022 Reflection

3/4Z had a great start to the year. We were happy to be at school with all our friends and in our new classroom.

Writing

We wrote a class story about a dog escaping from his yard and going on an exciting adventure. Each day we wrote a different section of the story. We concentrated on getting the structure and features of a narrative story correct. At the same time, we were writing our own narrative stories. We learnt about HOOKS.. which made the reader want to read more!!! Next we worked on the body of events and the then the final showdown...the conclusion where everything made sense. We made sure that our stories ended with detail. We also improved our writing by using tier 2 and 3 words. Dictionaries and Thesauruses helped us with that! We also studied the concept of a persuasive text. Special thanks to Mrs Zanatta for making this a super fun learning experience. We used OREO templates for writing(which made us hungry). We all had so much fun writing to change the writer’s opinions. Thanks!

Maths

We did a lot of work with Place Value. We spelled out our names with MAB blocks to see how much it was worth. We learnt about Formal and Informal units and how to measure correctly and using decimal points to measure as well. We rounded numbers and decimals and we sang the song....”When it’s 5 round it up! We used different maths strategies to help us with addition and subtraction. (split, jump and compensation). We played maths games. We also made OOBLECK and discovered that it is a Non- New-Topian fluid.

We have had a very busy and fun Term! Happy Holiday s Everyone!!!!
