Principal Message – Term 1

Principal’s Message Week 4 Term 2 2022

It is hard to believe that we are nearly halfway through this term. So much has happened in just a few weeks that it seems impossible to keep up with all that is going on within the school. Despite all the illness doing the rounds, we are as a school faring quite well and have been fortunate to be able to keep the school and all the planned activities for the term going to date.

This week our 5/6s set off for camp. For our Year 5s this was their very first experience of school camp, our Year 6s were fortunate to just make it, to Canberra last year. Camps are such a great experience for our children in so many ways. Not only do they help children to form closer bonds, but they are a chance to unplug, be physical, learn new skills, connect with nature and to take risks in a controlled environment. From all reports from camp and from the children themselves – camp was the best. I can’t help but note how the IB Learner profile attributes are clearly identifiable in experiences such as these. To be able to put them to the test in real life contexts such as this, not only helps to consolidate the value of learning such skills but also highlights the impact they have, on not only the individual, but others and the world around them. Later in the year our Year ¾ children will also have the opportunity to head off to camp, all things going to plan. I know they are already champing at the bit to have their turn.

It has been such a joy to welcome our families back into classrooms and school activities. I am delighted that so many of you have taken up the opportunity to attend and participate in the life of the school. For us it completes the circle and is the vital link between home and school which we know plays such an essential part in a child’s success at school. There have over the course of the term been a number of different opportunities scheduled for family involvement – Mother’s Day, Prep Brekky and Confirmation Family night to name a few. We hope that as the year continues that you will be able to join us on more than one occasion. Look out for class and school events via Skoolbag, the newsletter and the website.

I would like to congratulate our Year 3-6 children on their terrific result at the HOLT Cross Country last week coming in FIRST place. What an outstanding effort. In true St Columba’s fashion our children showed great team spirit, camaraderie, and sportsmanship. This was a well-deserved moment for them all.
