Creative Arts - Japanese

Year 8 Japanese students have settled quickly into their new language learning experience and are working towards completing their first Conversation Task this week. In just 10 weeks, the students have learned to count to 100, read and write the first 20 Hiragana symbols, greet people at different times of day and introduce themselves in basic Japanese. They can also ask a variety of questions of others. The students utilise Language Perfect, an online learning tool, to help with vocab acquisition and retention. There are also numerous apps that are both fun to play and educational as well.
YEAR 10 HAKUHO SCHOLARSHIP TO JAPAN
Next week four lucky year 10 students - Miah Russell, Matthew Murphy, Alice McLoughlin and Harrison Foley - are off to Japan to participate in a two week immersion program along with 52 other Japanese language students from around the world. The students will engage in a variety of cultural activities and language classes, as well as a short homestay. Their language skills will be put to the test with Japanese being the only common language spoken among the 14 participating nations. The students are also expected to make several presentations in Japanese throughout their visit.
Although predominantly based in Tokyo, the students will travel to Tochigi prefecture and Fukushima prefecture during their time in Japan. A big thank you goes out to the Hakuho Foundation who host this wonderful scholarship program for students of Japanese. We wish the four students safe travels and look forward to hearing about their experience upon their return.
