Vocation Education and Training

METAL AND ENGINEERING
Year 11 engineering students have been applying their hand and power tool skills and are now finishing their Oxy Acetylene welding competencies. Students have started to fabricate their tool chests which will be worked on throughout the year as new skills are developed.
The Year 12 students have completed their Engineering Drawing Interpretation unit and are now working through the manual Metal Arc Welding and theoretical components for the course. Workplacements are a highlight of VET subjects in term 2, with the Year 12 Engineering students preparing to showcase their skills and knowledge in an industry of their choice.
CONSTRUCTION
Year 11 have begun the course working with a number of new hand and power tools to create a Wooden Float, Mallet and Saw Stool. These projects introduce students to measuring an marking and the use of the Drop Saw and Jigsaw.
Year 12 have been busy completing the leveling unit of work. Students have used a number of leveling devices such as Dumpy, Spirit, water and Laser levels working on small practical tasks. The students will then work on concreting producing a small concrete slab around the College.
HOSPITALITY
Year 11 Hospitality students have had a great start to the Semester. They have started work placement in The Pear Tree Cafe, students spend the whole week learning about the industry and working with the catering staff. Year 11 Hospitality students are learning about Food Hygiene and Work Health and Safety.
After completing their mid-course exams year 12 are currently learning about coffee for one of their units. This unit is introducing them to all aspects involved with making and serving espresso coffee.
INFORMATION AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES
Year 11 IT have been finalising the plans for their network using the PC's that they have built themselves and that they will administer. They have been investigating different network technologies and determining what network devices are best suited to perform different tasks. They are now ramping up their study in preparation for their Trial and HSC exams.
Year 12 Specialisation study have been completing their last assessment task to gain their full Certificate III in IT. Part of their last task is to interview a network administrator about their role. The students have chosen to interview Mr Cutler about his role which involves network administration at the College. We wish them well in completing their final tasks and gaining their full qualification.
