Principal's Report

Welcome to 2017

I would like to welcome everyone back for the start of 2017, and particularly welcome any new families to our school community. We are looking forward to another great year at Staughton.

This year we have started with a focus on Respect and Growth Mindset.

The idea that we all respect each other as members of the school community is fundamental to the way we go about things at Staughton. This is something that we will continue working on in 2017 with all members of our community. Respect helps to lay the foundations for successful collaboration between students, teachers, and parents. We know that this collaboration is very important in achieving student-learning growth. We particularly look forward to celebrating student growth with you at our Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences in Term 2, 3 and 4.

Having a growth mindset means that you believe your ability is not fixed, and can be developed with effort, the right strategies, and access to help when you need it. All students began the year with an assembly and activities about growth mindset. We will continue to work with teachers and students to develop their growth mindset, and make sure students continue to be encouraged to:

  • ‘try, persevere, achieve’;
  • learn about the strategies successful learners use; and
  • have access to help when they need it, both in class and in out of class opportunities such as Homework club and Junior English and Maths tutoring.

College Council Elections

Elections for parent representatives on College Council will take place in March, with a call for nominations for parent vacancies in mid-February.
