Debutante Ball

Debutante Ball

A group of Staughton and non Staughton teenagers completed their Debutante Ball in March this year.  There were people in the deb who were Staughton students and people who do not attend Staughton College because it was a private event. The students from Staughton who were involved was Shaylin, Amelia, Kiara G, Jazmin, Chelsea, Kiara W, Oliver Bradley, Broden, Dylan, Evan and Matt from year 11 & 12.

I wanted to do my Deb because I wanted to have a fun night with friends and feel like a princess.

We did 3 dances and a duo with our partners. I didn’t find the dances difficult but some students may have.

We had to practice and rehearse 2 hours each week for 6 weeks and also did a few extra in the lead up to the event.

On the day of the Debutante Ball, I got up at around 7:30am and had to get my make and hair done. Most of the girls had to start early. Then we put on our dresses, jewelry, gloves and shoes. We had to meet our photographer David Oastler in Eynesbury at 12:30. We booked a Hummer for the couples to travel to the Luxor Reception Centre in Taylors Lakes at 3pm to have more photographs and practice our dances. We had an early bite to eat on the night and then it was time for our families to see our dances.

The best thing about doing your deb is being with your family and friends, dressing up and feeling like a princess.

Each debutante invited their families who had a table, dressed up and got to dance on the night. Everyone enjoyed themselves and loved the night. We could also invite our friends and school teachers to attend. They all said it was a great night.

If I could give some advice to students interested in doing their Deb it would be to just do it! It may seem scary or stressful but in the end it’s worth it because it’s so much fun and you get to feel really special.
